Privacy NoticeQueen Elizabeth reportedly had a heartbreaking two-word response when Prince Harry decided to step back from his royal duties and move to the US. That’s according to Robert Jobson, who explained it all in his new biography about Kate Middleton titled Catherine, the Princess of Wales. In 2020, Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, relocated to the US with their children, Archie and Lilibet, in a controversial move that left royal fans stunned. Recalling the moment, he penned: “As a grandmother, Queen Elizabeth undoubtedly loved Harry and the fun-loving side to his character, but as a monarch, she saw him as a maverick who had let her down.” “His departure, she told those close to her, was a ‘missed opportunity’. She knew that he and Meghan had much to offer and certainly appealed to the younger generation in a way none of the other royals could.”

He added: “But the idea of the couple earning millions by cashing in on their royal titles and status was abhorrent to her.” The author suggested that the Queen “did not object” to the Sussexes’ decision to leave but was “adamant” they be “stripped” of their patronages and banned from using their HRH titles. It follows previous comments from a royal expert who claimed Harry and Meghan “didn’t realise” how “powerful” they were and how much help they could have been to the Royal Family. Bonnie Brownlee, speaking to True Royalty TV’s The Royal Beat, suggested that the couple could have brought “fairness and change” to the monarchy, hinting that Meghan could have been a key player in this.

Harry has previously shared his thoughts on his decision to step back from royal duties in his explosive memoir, Spare. In a 2017 interview, later covered by the Mail On Sunday, Harry confessed that he once “wanted out” of the Royal Family and yearned for an “ordinary life”. However, the couple’s shock exit has not been without controversy. Several incidents have further strained their relationship with the royals, including a 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey where they accused the Royal family of racism and bullying. This was followed by a revealing Netflix docuseries ‘Harry and Meghan’ and the release of Harry’s tell-all 2023 book ‘Spare’.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
