Privacy NoticeCrown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway’s eldest son, Marius Borg Høiby, was arrested on Sunday night due to a serious incident in Oslo. The 27 year old was taken into custody for over 30 hours following an alleged altercation with a woman in her 20s at an apartment in the upscale Frogner district. Norwegian magazine Se og Hr reported that Marius is accused of both ‘psychological and physical’ assault on the woman, who subsequently required hospital treatment for a concussion but was released early Monday morning. It’s believed he was placed in solitary confinement and underwent a blood test to determine if drugs were involved.

Se og Hr quoted police saying: “A person was arrested and charged with assault and later released from custody.” Meanwhile, publication Dagbladet described the scene of the incident as a wrecked apartment. Marius Borg Høiby, who is Princess Mette-Marit’s son from before her marriage to Crown Prince Haakon, whom she met in 1999, is now said to be staying at the Royal Skaugum estate with his mother, who is 50. The incident led to a change in Royal plans; Princess Mette-Marit was expected at the men’s 1500-metre final at the Paris Olympics last night, but instead, Crown Prince Haakon attended solo, reports the Express. Following these events, the Norwegian Palace has confirmed that the Crown Princess has chosen to “temporarily postpone” her trip to France.

“The Crown Princess has temporarily postponed her departure and hopes to travel down later”, the Palace’s communications chief texted to Se og Hr. His mother, Princess Mette-Marit, 50, suffers from the chronic disease pulmonary fibrosis, which is an incurable condition which involves the scarring of the lungs, which she was diagnosed with in October 2018. Speaking to Norwegian media following her diagnosis, the royal said: “There are many difficult and painful things about this disease, but at the same time there is something beautiful because you find yourself. “It’s an opportunity to live a little more slowly and discover which things give you energy and which things take it away.” The disease often means the Crown Princess is forced to cancel public appearances. Before her diagnosis, the Crown Princess was being prepared to take over duties with her husband Crown Prince Haakon, as her father-in-law King Harald V is the oldest ruling monarch in Europe, at 86.
