Privacy NoticeKatie Price has opened up about her past struggles with substance abuse, which led to what she describes as a “major breakdown”. The 46 year old former glamour model was hospitalised after crashing her car while under the influence of alcohol and drugs in 2021. The incident resulted in a two-year driving ban and a 16-week suspended jail sentence for drink-driving. Following this, Katie sought help at the well-known Priory Clinic to address her issues with alcohol and drugs. Reflecting on this challenging period in her life, Katie revealed on Nicky Byrne’s podcast : “I’ve been diagnosed with severe ADHD. I remember the doctor saying to me, because obviously he knew I’d done [cocaine]… I’m like, ‘I just go completely quiet and shut down’. He said, ‘That’s a major sign of someone with ADHD’.”

During an appearance on the Westlife singer’s new podcast, Nicky Byrne HQ, he asked her: “At one point you were the most famous person in Britain. How does it sit with you now?” Katie responded: “In our industry, if I don’t turn up for work nobody can replace me. You sort of just get on with it and you don’t deal with what’s happened.” She continued: “It got to a point where I had a major breakdown, ended up in The Priory twice, five weeks at a time, and then I self medicated on coke. I’ve been through so much and I’ve come out the other end.” She revealed she had some friends over on the night and confessed in her latest autobiography This Is Me: “One of them had some coke on them and, yes, I had a little bit of it, probably a couple of lines, it wasn’t even a lot. I had some alcohol too.” A distressing call from her daughter Princess Andre prompted an impulsive reaction.

Katie recounted: “I could tell she was upset so I asked her what was wrong,” and continued, “My daughter was ringing to tell me she wasn’t allowed to see me and my heart just broke. I needed to go right that minute and I didn’t care that it was 2am. I didn’t care about anything anymore.” The celebrity mum first sought help at a private rehab clinic in 2018 after turning to cocaine to ‘block things out’, staying there for 28 days. In her documentary series My Crazy Life, Katie shared insights into her struggles, saying she resorted to using when her head was “so numb” with stuff. Recently, Katie was seen driving again, looking relaxed as she emerged from her red car during a holiday in Cyprus. Just last month, she excitedly told her social media followers that she was eagerly awaiting the arrival of her driver’s licence so she could take to the roads once more.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
