Privacy NoticePrince Harry and Meghan Markle have kickstarted their four-day visit to Colombia, with the couple beginning their trip by meeting Vice President Francia Marquez in capital city Bogota on Thursday, 15 August. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who stepped back from their roles as senior royals in 2020, touched down in Bogota on Thursday morning where they joined Vice President Francia Marquez and her husband, Rafael Yerney Pinillo, for a breakfast meeting. A lip-reading expert has reportedly revealed a subtle interaction shared between the Sussexes as they greeted fans. According to the Mirror, professional lip reader Nicola Hickling deciphered Meghan’s whispered command to Harry, 39, with the mum-of-two reportedly saying “hand”, to which he responded: “Here you go.”

Their itinerary included a stop at the Colegio Cultura Popular children’s school in Bogota, where they were shown around by the school’s principal, Leonel Umana Parra, and student Jose David. Harry charmed onlookers by attempting to count in Spanish and reportedly discussing his young family, Archie, aged five, and three year old Lilibet. According to Nicola, he told the crowd: “I have young children and they’re not on social media.” For the occasion, Meghan, 43, exuded elegance in a £598 Orlinda vest by Veronica Beard which complemented by Harry’s sharp navy suit. During their first appearance on the tour, Harry was spotted affectionately placing his arm around Meghan.

Meghan and Harry have been invited to Colombia by VP Marquez, and they’ve got a busy itinerary that includes meeting with leaders and discussing cyberbullying concerns. In addition, they’ll participate in a summit with experts, activists, and community members who are striving to foster more positive online spaces. On Friday, the couple will stay in Bogota to engage with students about emotional well-being in education. They’re set to attend a luncheon hosted by Vice President Marquez, followed by a meet-and-greet with Colombia’s Invictus Games competitors. Colombia made history as the first South American country to join Prince Harry’s sporting event for wounded, injured, and sick service personnel and veterans, when they competed at the Dusseldorf Invictus Games in September 2023. This visit marks Meghan and Harry’s inaugural joint trip to Colombia, and they’ll also be exploring the cities of Cartagena and Cali during their stay.
