Privacy Notice While Meghan Markle is often thought of as the first actress to marry into the Royal Family, she’s not the only one. The Firm has seen a few other famous faces join its ranks over the years. Sophie Lara Winkleman became a member of the Royal family when she married Lord Frederick Windsor at Hampton Court Palace in 2009. Although, unlike Meghan, Sophie didn’t give up her acting career and take on official duties and continues to land regular roles. Born in Primrose Hill, London, on August 5, 1980, Sophie – who is officially known as Lady Frederick Windsor – has had a number of notable roles on the big screen, including in Peep Show, Two and a Half Men, This Is Going to Hurt and The Chronicles of Narnia.

The couple have two children who are close to Prince George and Princess Charlotte as they previously attended the same school – Thomas’s in Battersea, South West London. Sophie is the daughter of children’s author Cindy Black and Barry Winkleman and is also the half-sister of TV presenter and Strictly Come Dancing host, Claudia Winkleman. Lord Frederick Windsor, the son of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, tied the knot on September 12 in front of several senior royals.

After their wedding, the couple moved to the US so that Sophie could continue her acting career. While residing in California, their first daughter, Maud Elizabeth Daphne Marina Windsor, arrived in 2013. Maud is the great-granddaughter of Prince George, Duke of Kent, and a great-great granddaughter of King George V. Being 54th in line to the throne, Maud’s name pays homage to several Royal ancestors. Her first name is a nod to Queen Maud of Norway, who was a daughter of King Edward VII, while Elizabeth honours the late Queen.

Her other middle names, Daphne and Marina, are tributes to Sophie’s grandmother and Lord Frederick’s grandmother, Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark, respectively. The couple later returned to the UK and welcomed their second daughter, Isabella Alexandra May Windsor, at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital on January 16, 2016. Soon after their return, Sophie took on the role of royal patron of the Children’s Surgery Foundation and made history by becoming the first female patron of School-Home Support.

As Lady Frederick Windsor, she has previously been spotted standing on the Buckingham Palace balcony at national events, such as Trooping the Colour. She previously also joined the rest of the Royal Family at celebrations for the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, as well at monarch’s state funeral in London and her committal service in Windsor. Sophie also attended the 2011 wedding of the Prince and Princess of Wales, as well as the 2019 nuptials of her sister-in-law Lady Gabriella Windsor to the late Thomas Kingston.

She later revealed that she performed at Lady Gabriella’s wedding, telling the Daily Mail: “I sang one of my sister-in-law’s favourite songs, Will You Love Me Tomorrow. There were a few tears but I’m not sure if it was because they were moved or wanted me to stop!” She also spoke warmly about her daughter Maud’s adorable friendship with Prince George during a tea at Kensington Palace, as she revealed to HELLO!: “Maud and George got on very well… He is a very clever, articulate little boy and was speaking long before other toddlers his age.” The young royals, who once attended the same school, shared a sweet moment as bridesmaids at Princess Eugenie’s wedding, captured in a photo that showed them giggling together.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
