Privacy NoticePrince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are carrying on a sweet tradition set by their beloved late ‘Granny Diana’. They’re penning thank you notes to show their gratitude, just like the People’s Princess taught Princes William and Harry. Learning these impeccable manners is an important part of preparing for a lifetime of public service. Their sweet habit is a throwback to their grandmother, Diana, Princess of Wales, who firmly believed in personal thank you notes for acts of kindness. Diana was always seen as a trailblazing royal mother who wanted her sons to experience life beyond the palace gates.

Queen Elizabeth’s hilarious run-in with a builder who asked her for ‘a proper cup of tea’
Her biographer Andrew Morton recounts: “She took the young royals with her on her private charity visits from a young age… One of the reasons was she didn’t want the boys to grow up thinking the whole world was 4×4 Range Rovers, shotguns and nannies.” Diana’s down-to-earth parenting shone through in the simple, yet meaningful, lessons she imparted – lessons that resonate through the generations of her family even today. The Prince and Princess of Wales are ensuring Diana’s legacy lives on through their parenting. The couple is known for instilling good habits in their children, such as writing thank you notes – a practice Diana was keen on with her own sons.
The three young royals reportedly send thank you letters to anybody who has helped them
An insider shared: “William and Kate have developed this brilliant knack of letting as much as they can seem spontaneous and that’s how the children see it. Table manners, thank you letters, little courtesies are being drilled into the children so they become automatic.” Diana’s commitment to courtesy was highlighted by her former protection officer, Ken Wharfe, who recalled a time when Prince Harry had an adventurous day out wanting to experience the London Underground and the iconic red buses. The royal group started their journey at South Kensington Tube station, made their way to Piccadilly, and then hopped on the 38 bus to Victoria station. However, young Prince Harry got up to mischief on the bus, mimicking the Sikh driver’s announcements by shouting: “parp, parp, ring, ring.”

Diana didn’t let this slide and made sure Harry apologised right away, although the driver took the prank in stride, finding it amusing and saying: “He loved it.” Wharfe also mentioned discovering a thank you note from Harry on his desk the next day. Wharfe said that the prince’s note was one of gratitude for helping him live a day like a normal person, but in Harry’s true prankster nature, he signed the note with the same “parp, parp, ring, ring” that had landed him in trouble the day before.Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
