According to the Express, Prince Andrew, alongside his former wife Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, will spend time at Queen Elizabeth II’s much-adored Craigowan retreat. A source claimed that after becoming rather isolated at Royal Lodge since December, Prince Andrew is eagerly anticipating the escape. “Andrew has hardly left Royal Lodge since Christmas so he’s very much looking forward to getting away with the rest of the family at Balmoral,” the source said. “He’s turned into a bit of a recluse, so the girls [Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie] are hoping that some nice family time will help cheer him up a bit and bring him out of his shell.” Sign up to OK’s royal newsletter to get updates sent to your inbox for free

Meanwhile, King Charles is reported to be remaining firm when it comes to the ongoing row over Prince Andrew’s current residence, Royal Lodge. It has been suggested that King Charles wants his brother to consider a more modest abode due to the financial burden of maintaining such a grand property. Despite this, his brother Andrew is reportedly dug in at Windsor’s 30-bedroom mansion, said to be valued at £30million, after being granted a 75-year lease in 2003. In recent years the huge property has allegedly fallen into disrepair, and part of Prince Andrew’s lease states that he must “repair, renew, uphold, clean and keep in repair and, where necessary, rebuild” the mansion. The document also specifies that the mansion’s walls must be repainted every five years “with two coats of paint”, while inside the house, the Duke is obliged to “paint with at least two coats of paint and to paper, polish, decorate and otherwise appropriately treat” every seven years, starting from 2010.

Prince William and Kate, along with their three children – Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6 – are also set to join in the fun at Balmoral this summer, reports the Express. While extended family members and guests stay in the castle itself, senior members of the Royal Family will reside in separate, more private cottages on the estate. King Charles and Queen Camilla will stay at Birkhall, where they spent their honeymoon in 2005.
