Privacy NoticePrince Harry has finally spilled the beans on how he ended up with the rather harsh nickname ‘spare’. Royal enthusiasts around the globe were taken aback by this moniker for the Duke of Sussex, and now he’s revealed its origins. In a recently unearthed snippet from his book, Prince Harry delves into his relationship with his father, King Charles, disclosing that it was actually his dad who coined the nickname in response to Princess Diana giving birth to a second son. Harry recalls his father’s words as: “Wonderful! Now you’ve given me an heir and a spare – my work is done.”

The Guardian newspaper highlighted that Prince Harry has always harboured resentment towards his nickname, a sentiment he expressed in his memoir. The paper stated: “Harry’s resentment of being the ‘spare’ is the underlying theme of his book, through chapters on his childhood, his schooling, his career as a royal and in the British Army, his relationship with his parents and brother, and his life with Meghan through courtship, wedding and marriage, to their own experience of parenthood.” Earlier this month, Prince Harry celebrated his 40th birthday – however, the Duke reportedly ‘spends most of his time thinking about the past’. A confidant told The Times last week: “I think he misses being over here [in Britain] desperately and wants to be admired more. Anyone who knows him feels he’d rather be top of the pops here with everyone loving him, as they do with William and Kate.” Speaking to OK! in an exclusive interview, Jennie said that this could be ‘frustrating’ for Meghan. “If Meghan is encouraging Harry to leave the past behind and move on, then I think it is a healthy move. They have made their decision, left the working royal family and left the UK,” she said.

“He says he now regards the USA as home — at least for the time being,” Jennie continued. “Brooding on the perceived injustices of the past and re-living old quarrels is a waste of a life, and I think Meghan sees that.” Meanwhile, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly made a big decision regarding their two kids – Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three. A source claimed that Harry has “won” the debate with his wife over whether to include their young children in their upcoming Netflix shows – and so they won’t feature. “Harry has been reluctant to show his children publicly, not out of a desire to hide them but to protect their privacy and safety from potential threats,” a source told PEOPLE.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
