Privacy NoticeDuchess Sophie and Prince Edward might just receive a Royal ‘thank you’ from King Charles, as they’ve been busier than ever since being crowned Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh. Last year saw Prince Edward attend 297 Royal engagements, while Sophie was not far behind with 219. According to reports, King Charles is considering gifting them the Royal Lodge, where Prince Andrew, who stepped back from Royal duties in 2019, currently resides. Writing for The Mail, royal commentator Richard Kay said: “Charles has entertained the thought of offering Royal Lodge to his youngest brother Prince Edward.”

“Charles has entertained the thought of offering Royal Lodge to his youngest brother Prince Edward,” revealed Royal scribe Richard Kay, who added, “The two haven’t always seen eye to eye but the King has been hugely impressed by the manner in which Edward and his wife Sophie have increased their workload since their elevation to Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.”, reports the Express. Richard added: “The couple have filled in the many gaps created by the absence of both Kate and himself while they underwent cancer treatment.” Sophie and Edward’s current home is Bagshot Park, Surrey, where they’ve been since tying the knot in 1999 and bringing up their two children, Lady Louise and James, Earl of Wessex.

Transferring the Edinburghs into Royal Lodge could potentially “dramatically disrupt family dynamics,” amid reports that Prince Andrew, who inked a 75-year lease in 2003, is pushing back against attempts to evict him from his home. The tensions are heightened by King Charles recently stripping away Andrews security detail. As King Charles aims to streamline the Royal estate and provide suitable accommodation for the most active royals, these proposed changes to the residence of the Edinburghs add to the ongoing reshuffle within the family.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
