Privacy NoticeThe Prince of Wales and The Duke of Sussex could be set for an unexpected reunion in New York City next month, amidst years of reported tension. Prince Harry, 39, announced on Tuesday that he’ll be heading to the Big Apple in September, in a visit which coincides with the UN General Assembly High-level Week and Climate Week (runs from September 22 to September 29). Harry’s upcoming trip is aimed at promoting several of his patronages and philanthropic initiatives, as well as causes close to his charity Archewell, which he launched with his wife Meghan shortly after they relocated to the US in 2020.

While in New York, Harry will “participate in engagements with African Parks, The HALO Trust, The Diana Award, and Travalyst,” a spokesperson for the Duke confirmed. He will also be “In addition, he will be furthering the work of The Archewell Foundation, the nonprofit organisation he co-founded with his wife Meghan Markle, The Duchess of Sussex.” Interestingly, this trip might clash with a significant event for his older brother, Prince William, 42. William’s Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit is also scheduled to take place on September 24 at The Plaza Hotel in Manhattan, reports the Mirror.

Prince William launched the prestigious Earthshot Prize back in 2020, with the noble goal of driving forward innovative and lasting solutions to the world’s most critical environmental challenges, such as conservation efforts, deforestation, and the climate crisis. The Prince is set to award £1 million in prizes across five categories annually until 2030 as part of this ambitious initiative. While his attendance at this year’s ceremony remains unconfirmed, his surprise appearance last year has left many Royal watchers eagerly anticipating another personal engagement from him to support a cause that’s clearly close to his heart. Yet, the possibility of Prince William and his brother Prince Harry reuniting at the event hangs in the balance. Earlier in the month, a source confided to The Sunday Times that it’s been “two years” since the siblings last spoke, which was around the time of Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September 2022. An insider lamented the brothers’ ongoing rift as “dreadfully sad”, noting that Prince William’s priorities have shifted this year due to the King and the Princess of Wales’ cancer diagnoses.

“This year his focus has very much been on his wife, his children and his father. His brother isn’t really something that’s discussed,” the source disclosed. Despite being oceans apart, Prince Harry hasn’t hidden his desire to mend fences with his family, leaving a glimmer of hope for reconciliation, especially if their paths were to cross in New York. Prince Harry opened up to Oprah Winfrey, admitting: “I love William to bits, he’s my brother, we’ve been through hell together… but we’re on different paths,” and also reflected, “The relationship is space at the moment. Time heals all things hopefully.”
