Privacy NoticeDiana, Princess of Wales shared a special bond with the US, much like her son Prince Harry, and was reportedly on the cusp of relocating there when her life was tragically cut short in 1997. Diana’s trusted friend Stewart Pearce – who worked as her personal voice and presence coach – has revealed that the Princess had ambitions to break into the film industry, aiming to produce documentaries and movies. Stewart also disclosed that Diana had been offered a role by a top Hollywood star to appear in the follow-up to the smash-hit The Bodyguard, taking on a part similar to the iconic one played by Whitney Houston in 1992.

He went into detail about how Diana was excited about her potential move to America and had even received an offer from acting heavyweight Kevin Costner for a The Bodyguard sequel. Stewart reminisced: “I do remember her talking about the whimsey of the wonderful idea of Kevin [Costner] stepping forward saying we would love to make a movie about you.” “She would have stayed behind the lens. I was very fortunate to attend a number of private parties where we went to theatres. She knew she was much better as a person behind the camera rather than in front of the camera.”

Stewart was asked if Diana’s work would have been award-worthy, to which he responded: “I am sure it would have been very easy for her to gain accomplishments.” Kevin Costner, who starred in the original Bodyguard movie, previously shared with PeopleTV about Diana’s keen interest in participating in a sequel. He also revealed a particular concern she had about appearing on screen. The actor, who played bodyguard Frank Farmer in the hit film, said: “The studio liked the idea of doing a Bodyguard 2.” He further explained that Diana would have taken on a role “in the same kind of capacity as Whitney”, adding: “Nobody really knew that for about a year.”

Kevin then disclosed Diana’s one apprehension about starring in a film with him. They had discussed the potential of filming intimate scenes together, and the princess was “nervous about kissing the Hollywood star about kissing the Hollywood star. He recalled: “I just remember her being incredibly sweet on the phone, and she asked the question, ‘Are we going to have, like a kissing scene?” “She said it in a very respectful [way]. She was a little nervous because her life was very governed. And I said, ‘Yeah, there’s going to be a little bit of that, but we can make that okay too’.”

In addition to this, Oscar-winning British film producer Lord David Puttnam revealed that he had discussions with Diana’s boyfriend Dodi Al-Fayed about working in film and TV. Lord Puttnam remarked: “I do not know how serious Dodi was about fulfilling his practice as a producer. These were just possibilities being discussed.” “I don’t know who she was speaking to. But she asked me: ‘Do you think this is a good idea, and spoke about documentaries and about major movie features’.”

In his tell-all book, Protecting Diana: A Bodyguard’s Story, Lee Sansum recalled the moment Princess Diana considered revealing her plans to move to the US to escape the relentless paparazzi. Lee penned: “Then she told me: ‘I want to go to the US and live there so I can get away from it all. At least in America, they like me and will leave me alone.'”. He recounted asking if her sons would accompany her, to which Diana confided that she wouldn’t be permitted to take them away from their Royal duties, sharing with Lee: “I will probably only be able to see them in the school holidays.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
