Privacy NoticeA new book has revealed a heart-wrenching question Prince Harry asked following the funeral of his mother, Princess Diana, in 1997. In ‘A Voyage Around The Queen’, author Craig Brown claims that a young Harry, aged just 12 at the time, questioned whether his mother was truly gone. Brown describes the end of the service, writing: “The 100-strong congregation ends the service with a rendition of ‘God Save the Queen’. After the service, Harry asks, ‘Are you sure Mummy’s really dead?'” The book hit the shelves just days before today’s 27th anniversary of Princess Diana’s tragic death in Paris on August 31, 1997. In honour of this anniversary, it has been announced that Harry will host an event in New York City next month to commemorate his beloved mother. However, it seems Prince William won’t be joining his brother for the event honouring the Diana Award next month.

The CEO of the Diana Award, Dr Tessy Ojo, confirmed Harry’s role as host, stating: “In our 25th year, The Diana Award is delighted to be leading an event with Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex in New York this September,” reports the Express. She added: “The event will be driven by young people and their insights on the biggest issues facing their generation today.” While the Duke of Sussex is set to make a solo appearance in New York City, his brother Prince William won’t be accompanying him. Earlier this month, the Express reported that Prince William will not be present at the Earthshot Innovation Summit happening on September 24. An insider shared with the Express: “William is not due at the event because he has other plans. It’s not an event Wills was ever due to attend but I’m sure there will be speculation that he’s pulled out because Harry will be there. But it’s simply not true.” The same source reiterated: “William is not due at the event because he has other plans. It’s not an event Wills was ever due to attend but I’m sure there will be speculation that he’s pulled out because Harry will be there. But it’s simply not true.”

However, it has come to light that despite their strained relationship, the brothers recently had a private rendezvous during the funeral of their uncle Lord Robert Fellowes earlier this month. Back in March, both princes showed their support for the Diana Legacy Awards at London’s Science Museum, albeit in different manners. Prince William made a personal appearance while Prince Harry joined the event via a video link from the United States. In Harry’s message, he expressed regret for his absence, saying: “I’m sorry I can’t be there, I wish I could be there with you guys. So much of the future depends on you guys, and you know that.” Furthermore, the Duke of Sussex extended his gratitude to those preserving Princess Diana’s legacy, stating: “Thank you very much for inspiring so many others and at the same time protecting my mother’s legacy, I really appreciate that.” Prince William has opened up about the profound influence his mother, Princess Diana, had on him, revealing that she instilled in him the belief that “everyone has the potential to give something back”.

Speaking fondly of his late mother, he said: “I know that she would have been honoured to see a charity in her name doing such inspirational work to uplift young people from all corners of the globe. She taught me that everyone has the potential to give something back; that everyone in need deserves a supporting hand in life.” He continued, sharing the impact of Diana’s legacy: “That legacy is something that both Catherine and I have sought to focus on through our work, as have the 50,000 young people who have received a Diana Award over the past 25 years. This evening’s Legacy Award is particularly special as it marks the 25th anniversary year of The Diana Award, a charity set up to reflect my mother’s belief that young people can change the world. “I know that she would have been honoured to see a charity in her name doing such inspirational work to uplift young people from all corners of the globe.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
