Privacy NoticeQueen Camilla has given a six-word update on King Charles’ health amid his cancer treatment on her first engagement after the summer break. Camilla, 77, visited a cancer centre in Bath today where she was asked about how her husband is doing amid his treatment. Suzy Moon, who works for MacMillan partnership asked about King Charles, “Is he okay?” To which the Queen replied, “Yes he is doing very well”. During the visit, The Queen toured the new centre and met some of the Cancer Centre’s supporters. The Royal United Hospital (RUH) provides cancer services to over 500,000 people in the South West and is one of the largest cancer centres in the region.

The Queen’s visit comes after both King Charles and the Princess of Wales were diagnosed with cancer. In the months that have followed, the Queen has taken a huge step up in not only supporting her own charities, but also representing the King. This is the latest in a line of engagements at cancer centres which have been made this year by the Royal Family. Thankfully, the King’s recovery continues to go well as he previously joked about being forced to take some rest. During a visit to Gibraltar Barracks in Minley, Hampshire, the King remarked that he was glad to be let “out of my cage”, as he referred to his treatment.

Queen Camilla’s visit to the new Dyson Cancer Centre brings together the majority of the Royal United Hospital’s cancer services, including a research hub, chemotherapy and radiotherapy services, a 22-bed in-patient ward, a dedicated pharmacy and nuclear medicine and physics teams under one roof. Construction of the centre began in 2021 after supporters (over 11,000 people donated in total) raised over £10 million. The centre was backed by an additional £40m in Government funding and opened to patients in April this year.

In the Macmillan Wellbeing Hub, a non-clinical, calming space where patients, families and carers can receive practical and emotional support, the Queen met patients and heard about the support they’ve received at the centre. The Queen also met clinical staff and patients receiving treatment in the Medlock Unit (Chemotherapy and Day Unit). After touring the William Budd inpatient ward, meeting in-patients and clinical staff, the Queen was invited to join a Reception in the Main Atrium with those involved in the centre’s construction, supporters and other members of staff. Before departing, The Queen unveiled a plaque officially opening the Dyson Cancer Centre.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
