Privacy NoticeRoman Kemp and Alex Jones, presenters of The One Show, were visibly moved to tears during an emotional segment on Wednesday’s programme. The BBC One show featured a special pre-recorded piece for Children In Need, where Roman, 31, and Alex, 47, met with several young members of the Children In Need Challenge Squad who shared their poignant stories. It was the story of 17-year-old Tanisha from Slough that particularly touched the hosts. Tanisha recounted how at just fourteen, she faced her father Mario’s diagnosis with oesophageal cancer. Despite enduring nine months of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, his life could not be saved. Following Mario’s passing, Tanisha’s family received support from Thames Hospice, which benefits from BBC Children in Need funding. This support helped them process their grief, reports the Mirror.

Inspired by the care she received, Tanisha is now motivated to assist other youths dealing with similar losses. Upon listening to Tanisha’s experience, Roman was seen fighting back tears, while an emotional Alex struggled to maintain composure as she spoke to Tanisha’s mother in the audience, saying: “It’s a huge loss to you as a family, you must be so proud of her.” Alex also reflected on her own feelings, stating: “Losing a parent? I can’t imagine that now as a forty-something!” The Challenge Squad, a group of four young individuals who have greatly benefited from BBC Children in Need funding, will be supported by Alex, Roman, and other celebrities yet to be revealed. The squad includes Tanisha, along with Emily, 21, from North London, Ethan, 16, from Bridgend, and Grace, 19, from Glasgow. Audiences took to Twitter, now X, expressing their heartfelt emotions, with one user commenting: “What amazing children #TheOneShow,” followed with a heart emoji.
