Privacy NoticeThe Royal Family have shared a moving tribute to Queen Elizabeth II on the second anniversary of her death. The Queen passed away on 8 September 2022 at her Balmoral Estate in Scotland. After a record-breaking 70-year reign, Her Majesty was laid to rest at King George VI Memorial Chapel at Windsor Castle, alongside her late husband Prince Philip. To mark the second anniversary of Elizabeth II’s passing, the Royal Family posted a photograph of her on social media along with a tribute. In the photo, taken in May 2019, Her Majesty can be seen beaming while sporting a pink jacket and matching hat. The picture was taken at the Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace. The family wrote: “Remembering Queen Elizabeth II, 1926-2022.”

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer also shared a message on social media to mark the anniversary. The politician wrote: “Today marks two years since the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. The late Queen’s dedication to the UK and Commonwealth taught us that whatever challenges our country faces, the value of service always endures. For the 70 glorious years of her reign, she was at the heart of this nation’s life. Today we honour her memory.” Plans for a official memorial to the late Queen were unveiled days before the anniversary of her death. A memorial, expected to take the form of a sculpture or statue, is to be placed in St James’s Park in London. The final design is expected to be revealed by the centenary of the late Queen’s birth in 2026. The location of the memorial, which is not far from the Mall, means tourists visiting Buckingham palace will be able to take a short walk to see it. To mark his late mother’s anniversary, King Charles, 75, headed to a church service on Sunday morning at Crathie Kirk, near Balmoral, alongside wife Camilla, 76. The pair were photographed arriving at the venue, where the Queen was a regular, as they got ready to pay tribute to Elizabeth II.

8 September is a deeply personal time for the King, as the date is the anniversary of the both the historic start of his reign as Charles III and the sad loss of his beloved mother. He faced a personally challenging second year as sovereign, marked by the difficult double health blow of his cancer diagnosis and that of his daughter-in-law the Princess of Wales. Looking ahead, the King and Queen are preparing for a significant tour to Australia and Samoa this autumn, marking their first major international journey since the announcement of Charles’s cancer.Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
