Privacy Notice Sir Elton John has cheekily taken a swipe at King Charles and Queen Camilla while reminiscing about his own wedding. The Rocketman hitmaker, who is reportedly still close pals with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, tied the knot with David Furnish in a civil partnership at Windsor Guildhall in 2005. Interestingly, this was the same venue where Charles and Camilla had their nuptials just eight months prior. Chatting about his big day in Variety magazine, Sir Elton couldn’t resist making a comparison. He quipped: “We did it at the same place as Charles and Camilla. We had a bigger crowd.” According to the Daily Mail, Charles and Camilla’s wedding saw over 20,000 attendees, while the BBC reported that Sir Elton’s special day drew “hundreds of well wishers”.

The 77 year old music legend is believed to have footed the bill for policing on his wedding day. Richard Eden, Diary Editor at the Daily Mail, suggests that while the exact size of the crowds remains uncertain, the singer might have been “given a figure” by the police, reports the Express. Charles and Camilla initially planned to marry at Windsor Castle, but due to licensing laws which would require the venue to be open to other couples for at least three years, they opted for Guildhall instead. Rebecca English, Royal Editor at the Daily Mail, who attended the King’s wedding, disputed Sir Elton’s claim. She retorted: “I was standing outside the Guildhall and we were packed like sardines. There were people with flags and bunting, so I’m really sorry but I don’t think he knows what he’s talking about.”

Pop legend Elton John was reportedly close with Harry and Meghan after performing ‘Candle in the Wind’ at close pal Princess Diana’s funeral. However, according to The Mirror, their friendship cooled when Elton chose to serialise his autobiography in the Daily Mail. In his memoir ‘Spare’, Harry reveals that he felt compelled to express his concerns while staying with Sir Elton in Paris, alleging that the newspaper made their lives “miserable”. The acclaimed singer is reported to have responded by saying he “wanted people to read” the book, leading Harry to drop the issue so as not to “not spoil” his holiday. However, this incident allegedly resulted in a less close relationship between the two.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
