Privacy NoticeThe Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s decision to step back from their roles as senior members of the Royal Family has seen a great deal change in the past four years. And, while Prince Harry has made a number of journeys back to the UK for events and significant charity engagements, Meghan has chosen not to follow suit. The last time the Duchess returned was for Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022 when the pair were already in the UK carrying out a handful of appearances. With it frequently reported that Harry wishes to spend more time in the UK, a leading royal expert has explained the one change that will have to happen in order for this to take place.

Royal author Hugo Vickers told the Sun: “The real problem here is that Prince Harry is not going to come back without Meghan, unless, for some reason, they separate, or something goes badly wrong. I don’t think she shows any wish at all to come to this country, because she’s not actually very popular in this country.” He added that Harry himself has “been complicit” in a lot of “quite unpleasant” remarks aimed at the Royal Family made by the Sussexes.

“But I’ve always felt that he was acting rather on instruction,” Hugo continued. “I would think it was more likely that he would come back on his own at some point, but I don’t see that in the immediate future. And in fact, I think it would be a distraction, because, you know people are always talking about Harry and Meghan the whole time.” He went on to argue that as a nation we “need to concentrate” on the King and the working royals and “all the things that they’re achieving” – with Harry and Meghan having stepped down in 2020. If Prince Harry came back, the chances are that people would be wondering why he was back and what he was really up to.”

Hugo’s comments come after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle released a new statement through their non-profit organisation, The Archewell Foundation, to commemorate National Voter Registration Day to encourage voter sign-up before the November 5 US Presidential election. The foundation’s website shared details of the initiative, stating: “Using Vote Forward’s impactful letter-writing tool, our team wrote personalized letters encouraging unregistered voters to take a crucial step: registering to vote.”

In a powerful call to action, the foundation stressed the importance of voting: “Voting is not just a right; it’s a fundamental way to influence the fate of our communities. “At The Archewell Foundation, we recognize that civic engagement, no matter one’s political party, is at the heart of a more just and equitable world. By participating in initiatives like this, we aim to amplify the message that every voice matters.” They concluded with a rallying cry: “Together, let’s make sure every eligible voter is informed and empowered to participate in shaping America’s future.” It’s important to note, however, that neither the couple nor their foundation has officially backed Kamala Harris or Donald Trump in the presidential contest.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
