Privacy Notice The rift between the Prince of Wales and his younger brother, the Duke of Sussex, began several years ago and has been the feature of endless coverage ever since. While Prince Harry himself said that he and William were “on different paths”, the extent of the chasm between the once close siblings prompted a great deal of shock. According to many reports and Harry’s own memoir, Spare, the bond between the two brothers began to break down when Harry’s relationship with his girlfriend, Meghan Markle, quickly picked up speed. So much so, that at the time a statement was issued on Prince William’s behalf to deny claims he was “deeply unhappy” with his brother’s decision to publicly confirm his relationship with Meghan.

Back in 2016, Kensington Palace issued a statement explaining that Prince William fully understood his brother’s concern surrounding privacy. It came shortly after Harry had issued a heartfelt statement asking for consideration of Meghan’s private life. “The Duke of Cambridge absolutely understands the situation concerning privacy and supports the need for Prince Harry to support those closest to him,” a spokesperson for Kensington Palace said in a statement. The message from Prince Harry said he had fears for Meghan’s safety after members of the press door stepped her and her family and attempted to illegally gain access to her property.

“His girlfriend, Meghan Markle, has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment. Some of this has been very public,” it said. “The smear on the front page of a national newspaper; the racial undertones of comment pieces; and the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments.” “Some of it has been hidden from the public – the nightly legal battles to keep defamatory stories out of papers; her mother having to struggle past photographers in order to get to her front door; the attempts of reporters and photographers to gain illegal entry to her home and the calls to police that followed; the substantial bribes offered by papers to her ex-boyfriend; the bombardment of nearly every friend, co-worker, and loved one in her life.”

In the eight years since they met, the couple have married and welcomed two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Every detail of their subsequent decision to step back from their senior royal roles in 2020 has been heavily publicised and the pair are continuing to carve out their positions away from the Firm. As they make this the focus, it is an important time for Prince Harry as he is currently carrying out a solo visit to New York during the UN General Assembly High-level Week and Climate Week. These notable events see Climate Week continuing until September 29, while High-level Week took place from September 23 to September 27. According to the announcement, Harry will “advance a number of his patronages and philanthropic initiatives.” His schedule in the city includes participating in engagements with African Parks, The HALO Trust, The Diana Award, and Travalyst,” added the spokesperson. The Diana Awards also shared news that he will be present at an event celebrating the charity’s 25th anniversary. Harry will also “be furthering the work of The Archewell Foundation, the non-profit organisation he co-founded with Meghan.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
