On Tuesday’s episode (February 18), Janet joined Ruth Langsford, Brenda Edwards and Kelle Bryan on the panel. As they reminisced about their carefree childhood days spent playing outdoors, Kelle voiced her concerns about the safety of children today. Expressing fears for her own kids, Kelle pointed out the perceived rise in kidnappers prowling the streets. However, Janet, who fondly remembers her own outdoor adventures as a child, quickly dismissed Kelle’s worries. Interrupting Kelle mid-sentence, Janet declared: “Can I just stop you right there.”

She then clarified that there hasn’t been an increase in child kidnappings, asserting that such dangers have always existed and nothing has drastically changed, reports the Mirror. Ruth stepped in to support Kelle’s viewpoint, empathising with her concerns as a parent of young children today. Yet, she also conceded that while dangers do exist, it’s crucial not to forget that children need a sense of freedom as they grow up. Following Kelle’s bold remarks, fans flocked to social media site X to weigh in on the debate. Many viewers felt that Kelle might have been a tad dramatic with her reasoning. Viewers shared their varied reactions to Kelly’s remarks online. One chimed in: “Bl**dy hell Kelly calm down, can’t wrap them in cotton wool, protect them absolutely, don’t smoother them.” Another picked up on her body language, stating: “Kelle very much on the defensive there.”

A third person posed a question in response to the discussion: “Are children kidnapped and abducted more nowadays than they were when we were little? I don’t think so,” A fourth contributed to the dialogue: “Kidnappings etc happened in ‘my’ day too – nothing new unfortunately.” A fifth expressed intense disagreement with her views, exclaiming: “Kidnapping? ? Is she f****n serious? ? ” Kelle, a mother of two, previously shared in Mother and Baby magazine her lifelong aspiration to become a mum: “I come from a huge family: mum has eight siblings, 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.” She added: “It seemed like someone was giving birth every five minutes, but it was never my turn. Fortunately I met Jay, my husband, and now we have healthy, happy babies.” Loose Women airs weekdays at 12:30pm on ITV1.
