Privacy NoticeAfter two postponed weddings, Princess Theodora of Greece has been waiting four years to marry her lawyer partner Matthew Kumar. But showing the big day was worth the wait, the royal looked stunning this weekend as she finally said ‘I Do’ in a beautiful Athens ceremony. The royal donned an embellished wedding dress with a fold-over off-the-shoulder neckline, while the top section of her blonde locks were pulled back as the Cartier-made Khedive of Egypt Tiara sat on top, with the tiara long-worn in the Greek royal family. Her new husband, Matthew, looked dapper in a tailcoat suit as the couple sealed their union with a kiss outside the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens – where they said their vows.

Then, they rescheduled the big day for ‘early summer’ 2023, but the wedding was postponed a second time after the death of Theodora’s father King Constantine II of Greece in January 2023, when he passed at age 82. Two months following the king’s death, Theodora shared a public tribute as she wrote: “It’s been two months since you left us. Miss you everyday Papa. Love you.” He was the second cousin of King Charles and Prince William’s godfather, with Queen Camilla in attendance for his funeral, alongside King Felipe of Spain and Queen Letizia.

Prince William was expected to attend the funeral and give a reading, but pulled out last minute due to a ‘personal matter’. A number of fellow royals were in attendance for the wedding, including Queen Sofia of Spain and model Princess Olympia of Greece. Theodora was the late Queen Elizabeth II’s goddaughter and daughter to the late Greek King Constantine II and Queen Anne-Marie. Despite Greece abolishing their monarchy in 1974, the family still maintained their royal titles and ties with fellow European royals.

Princess Theodora and Matthew announced their engagement in November 2018 after two years of dating, announcing the engagement at the time with the statement: “Words can’t express our happiness and excitement. I can’t wait to marry this wonderful man. I love you, Matt”.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
