EastEnders viewers noticed a blunder in Thursday night’s live episode. The iconic BBC soap had the nation watching on during the dramatic live episode as part of the programme’s 40th anniversary week. During it, Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) gave birth with the help of Bianca Jackson and Lauren Branning, astonishingly nearby to the dead Reiss Colwell, her baby’s father. The baby turned blue but thankfully, after being attended to, the newborn began to cry. The paramedics soon arrived, rescuing the trio from the pub. However, fans couldn’t help but notice how the baby looked on screen and some eagle-eyed fans commented on how the baby resembled a doll.

One viewer said: “sonia and that baby was the most ridiculous scene ever it looked so fake,” while another said: “Sonia’s baby has tripled in size within 5 mins…” Other comments read: “Why has Sonia’s baby aged 10 months in 15 seconds” and: “Sonia’s baby looks like Mother Theresa.” EastEnders viewers voted for Sonia’s baby to be named Julia in the second vote of the live episode. Snuggled in an ambulance after being rescused, Sonia welcomed her baby to the world saying: “So welcome to the world Julia, it’s all about to begin”, reports the Mirror. Viewers also had the choice to name the baby Toni, paying homage to EastEnders’ creators Julia Smith and Tony Holland. While fans spotted the blunder with Sonia’s birth scenes, others were left in awe of Stacey Slater star Lacey Turner’s acting skills.

In the aftermath of the explosion, Martin Fowler remained trapped under a beam in the pub at the start of Thursday’s live episode, after he risked his own life to save Stacey. While pinned to the ground, he told Stacey that he loved her and she responded by telling him she felt the same, saying yes when he proposed. Stacey was taken aside by a paramedic who told her Martin was likely to suffer from crush syndrome, which would put him into kidney failure and a cardiac arrest when the beam was lifted. The pair kissed before the rescue began, with Stacey telling him: “It’s going to be alright.”

Tragically, Stacey’s worst fears were realised as Martin died, with her heart-wrenching scream echoing across Walford. Lacey’s performance has been praised by fans, with many pointing out that she is currently on maternity leave after welcoming her third child just a few weeks ago. One fan took to X, previously known as Twitter, to say: “Lacey Turner everyone. She’s just given birth and came back from maternity to act her heart out LIVE.” Another said: “So you’re telling me Lacey Turner filmed a stunt heavily pregnant, gave birth, came back a few weeks later and carried a live episode? Where’s this woman’s pride of Britain award? Get her a knighthood pronto!
