Privacy Notice Buckingham Palace has confirmed the exciting news that Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, are expecting their second child together in early spring. The new baby will be 11th in line to the throne and be a sibling for Edo’s son, Christopher Woolf ‘Wolfie’ Mapelli Mozzi, aged eight, and their daughter, Sienna Mapelli Mozzi, aged three. Alongside a sweet never before seen photograph of the family, it was confirmed that The King has been informed and both families are delighted with the news.

The couple, who married in a secret service in Windsor in 2020, welcomed their daughter Sienna on September 18, 2021 and remain fiercely private over their children’s lives. The meaning behind Sienna’s first name was explained by a family friend who told Hello!: “They were looking for an Italian name which started with an S for Sarah, to honour the Duchess [Sarah Ferguson], and also reflected the golden rust colour of both the Duchess’s hair colour and Beatrice’s, which the new baby shares.” And, much like her other cousins, Princess Beatrice chose to honour her late grandmother by including ‘Elizabeth’ in Sienna’s name. The desire for an Italian link stems from Edoardo’s own family and his aristocratic links to Italian nobility as he is a Count.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Edoardo’s father, Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi, explained: “Edoardo is the only male descendent taking the family into the next generation.” And while Sienna is a beautiful name, some thought the couple would choose to follow a family trend that Sarah, Duchess of York started and Princess Eugenie carried on with her two sons, August and Ernest. Sarah has a well-documented fascination in the life of Queen Victoria and even served as a producer on the 2009 film ‘Young Victoria’. Her interest runs so deep, in fact, that she named her two daughters after her.

Beatrice was the name of the Queen’s youngest daughter with Prince Albert and all three of Princess Eugenie’s names (Eugenie Victoria Helena) follow the same trend. Eugenie carried on this trend when her son, August, was born in 2021. The name August was one of the names of Queen Victoria’s husband, Prince Albert. This happened again in 2023 with the birth of their second son, Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank. Ernest was the name of Queen Victoria’s brother-in-law and featured in many of her descendants names, including King George V. The name Ronnie is in honour of the Duchess’ late father, Major Ronald Ferguson, who died in 2003.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
