Privacy Notice Prince William is looking ‘leaner and older’ amid his family’s cancer battles, with royal expert Jennie Bond saying he has “had to be the rock” for the royals. It has been a tough year for the royal family, with King Charles being diagnosed with prostate cancer in February and the Princess of Wales revealing she was also undergoing cancer treatment shortly afterwards. Speaking to OK! in an exclusive interview, royal expert Jennie has said that the royals’ health problems have taken their toll on supportive Prince William. “All the focus this year has been on Catherine and of course on King Charles. But I think we should spare a thought for William, who has had to shoulder the burden and the emotional turmoil of both his wife and father having cancer,” she said.

“And he has had to be the rock for both of them …and for his children. It has been an incredibly tough time for him and the strain has sometimes shown. He looks leaner and perhaps a bit older, but he is stepping out with his new beard and perhaps new confidence that the future is now looking brighter.” With a new look, Prince William has been dedicated to his public visits – which Jennie says are vital to the causes he supports. “Never underestimate the value of a royal visit. William is clearly upping his workload, but the engagements he carries out for the issues and campaigns he cares about so deeply are really the shop window for what he does behind-the-scenes,” she said. “Every visit, for example to see the eco-tyres of one of the Earthshot finalists, is an effective way of bringing publicity and public attention to the things that are at the core of his work. If William wasn’t there, we would probably never have heard about these tyres. Sign up to OK!’s royal newsletter to get updates sent to your inbox for free

“You can’t buy the publicity that a Royal can bring. But behind closed doors the Prince does a great deal more for these companies, organisations and campaigns. I’m sure he talks to his children about his work and is trying to give them the values and principles he believes in.” Prince William shares three children with his wife Kate – and recently, the couple’s adorable nickname for an unborn Prince George was revealed to be ‘little grape’. Royal expert Robert Jobson said in his 2013 book The New Royal Family: “The next time we would see her [Kate] – officially at least – would be on the hospital steps with her new baby in her arms and proud husband at her side. There is no doubt the birth of her baby would be her biggest test to date, and, indeed, it would be a crowning moment.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
