Privacy Notice When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle first discovered they were expecting a baby, in 2018, they shared the news with their closest family during Princess Eugenie’s wedding celebrations. But, when the Royal couple shared the happy news with Harry’s brother Prince William, his simple reaction might not be what you would have expected. Duke of Sussex Harry, 40, revealed the private interaction in his best-selling book, Spare, which was published last year. In the tell-all book, Harry writes, of the moment at the special royal reception in St George’s Hall: “We were in a big room, suits of armour on the walls. Strange room, strange moment.”

He goes on to explain how Prince William , 42, reacted to the news that Harry was to become a dad for the first time, and that William would become an uncle. Harry said William first responded with just four words: “We must tell Kate.” Prince Harry reveals that he was pleased with Kate Middleton’s reaction as well as his brother’s, writing: “Big smile and hearty congratulations. They both reacted exactly as I hoped – as I’d wished.” The Royal went on to describe how he told the news of the couple’s pregnancy to his father, King Charles. Harry shares that Charles was equally happy about the baby, finding found time to tell his dad the news before the wedding drinks reception. He wrote: “Just before a drink reception for the bride and groom, we cornered Pa in his study. He was delighted to learn that he was going to be a grandfather for a fourth time; his wide smile warmed me.” Sign up to OK!’s daily newsletter to get updates sent to your inbox for free

Harry and Meghan’s first child, Archie Harrison, is now five years old, while the couple also welcomed daughter Lilibet Diana in 2021, who is three years old. The family now live together Montecito, California, where they’ve been based for four years since leaving the UK. The Royal Family have had more happy baby news to celebrate recently, too. Princess Beatrice announced last week that she is expecting her second child with husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. Despite the happy memories in the book, relationships between the Royal family appear to still be fraught. However, one former royal butler believes that during a recent world tour, Harry has been trying to send a covert message of reconciliation to his father King Charles.
