Privacy NoticeGreece is set to sizzle next month with temperatures predicted to be higher than usual, extending the country’s streak of scorching weather. Typically, September in Greece is warm but not overly hot. However, this year, the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS) has forecasted a heatwave. The unusually hot weather could even stretch into winter, with average temperatures expected to be hotter than normal. The HNMS autumn forecast suggests that temperatures will be one or two degrees above the norm, particularly in western Greece. This prediction has been backed up by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), which also anticipates a similar temperature rise across the rest of Greece. It’s not just Greece feeling the heat, most of Europe, including Spain, Italy, Scandinavia and the Balkans, are also expected to see a one or two-degree increase compared to their autumn average. The only areas expected to cool down are between Iceland and Greenland, where temperatures are predicted to drop, reports the Express. Despite minor differences between the two weather models, both provide a reliable indication of what to expect this autumn, suggesting a warmer-than-usual season in Greece. As Greece continues to bask in the heat, the Foreign Office has issued a warning to Brits planning a trip to the Mediterranean hotspot. They’ve urged holidaymakers to stay vigilant for potential heatwaves and wildfires. The office highlighted that between April and October, the risk of wildfires increases. These fires can be extremely dangerous and their conditions can change rapidly.

The Foreign Office also shared some handy tips on how to prevent starting a wildfire while enjoying your Greek getaway. These include not leaving any litter behind, particularly glass, making sure cigarettes are fully put out, and avoiding lighting barbeques. Remember, it’s against the law to start a wildfire in Greece. If you spot a fire, don’t hesitate to dial 112 to reach the emergency services.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
