Premier Inn’s new room designs (Image: Premier Inn)Even though I’ve had the privilege of staying in some of the world’s top hotels for work, when it comes to a cosy night’s sleep at a reasonable price, Premier Inn is unbeatable in my opinion. So when the popular hotel chain announced a revamp of their rooms, I was eager to check them out. Premier Inn has unveiled its new Next Evolution Style rooms, giving both Standard and Premier Plus rooms at over 30 locations an upgraded, refreshed look. The makeover includes a more modern interior design, mood lighting options and enhanced connectivity as well as walk-in showers with double shower heads and full-length curtains. The Premier Plus rooms also come with extra features like a coffee machine, mini fridge and wireless charging. On a recent work trip to London, I stayed at the London Angel Islington branch. It’s conveniently located in the city centre, the check-in process was swift and straightforward, and the front desk staff gave me a warm welcome – not something you always get at a budget hotel. My room was everything I love about a Premier Inn room – spacious, clean, well-placed power sockets and lighting – but with a few subtle upgrades. The decor felt a bit fresher and lighter, with a chic feather print on the wall and purple headboard, and a purple mood lighting option in the bathroom. A traditional rectangular-shaped desk had been swapped out for a round table, making it perfect for both work and dining. The walk-in shower was spacious, with Baylis and Harding toiletries available to use, reports the Mirror. One thing that I know I can always count on at a Premier Inn is a comfy night’s sleep, and my latest stay here didn’t let me down; I felt like my head had barely hit the pillow before I was fast asleep, and I woke up feeling refreshed and ready for another busy day ahead.

At the time of writing these new Next Evolution Style rooms are only available in a few locations (you can check where they are here) but there are plans for 11,000 of these rooms to be rolled out across over 100 sites by February 2025. Prices for rooms vary depending on location, and if you want to splash out a bit more for an even more elevated experience, I recommend upgrading to a Premier Plus room. I was really impressed with the last one I stayed in, which had Nespresso coffee pods, little bars of Green and Black’s chocolate and additional toiletries in the bathroom. While Premier Inn remains my go-to for budget-friendly stays, it’s always a good idea to compare prices with other hotel chains like Best Western and Travelodge before making your booking.
