Privacy NoticeSpencer Matthews is feeling loved-up. He has just returned from a wonderful adults-only holiday with his wife Vogue Williams and he’s basking in the afterglow. “It was beautiful,” says Spencer, recalling the three-day skiing trip. The break was extra romantic for their pair, as they fell in love on the slopes when they took part in The Jump in 2017, although Vogue had to drop out when she sustained a knee injury. Spencer, who went on to win the series, proposed a year after they started dating and one month later they announced that Vogue was pregnant. It was actually the first time we’ve been away together without kids since we first met,” says Spencer, 35. “We went to Paris, just the two of us, seven years ago, back when we first met, and we realised on this ski holiday this was only the second trip of that nature.”

The couple were married in June 2018 at Spencer’s family’s Glen Affric estate – a fairy-tale castle, complete with Rapunzel-style turrets, in Scotland. Their first son, Theodore, five, was born in the September, followed by their daughter, Gigi, three, in July 2020, and Otto, who turns two next month. The pair clearly love family life, but Spencer admits starting a family so soon meant they didn’t really take advantage of being a carefree couple. “We were rather quick on the old, ‘Let’s have loads of kids’ thing,” he says, laughing. “It’s fine but it was quite interesting waking up and not having the responsibility of the three children to kind of look after. It felt quite strange at first, but obviously very nice in the end.”

Without their little ones drawing on the walls or asking for snacks, the pair – almost – didn’t know what to do with themselves. “We both got quite a lot of reading done,” he says, grinning cheekily. “We love a good read. We got loads of skiing in. We shared some beautiful meals.” While they enjoyed 72 hours of being just husband and wife, Spencer admits he and Vogue, 38, soon missed their children, adding, “The conversation does feel a bit dry without the kids.” So it’s no wonder then that the pair are considering having a fourth child, especially now they’ve had some time to reconnect and rekindle their spark. “There is always a possibility of more kids,” he says. “Vogue is very proudly Irish. We like a lot of kids.” However, like any parent, Spencer admits there are moments on the school run when he’s not sure it’s all such a great idea. “There are no immediate plans, but it’s one of those where, on some days, it feels like the best idea ever and on others it doesn’t,” he says. “When you’re juggling three school drop-offs and you’re just wondering if there’s room for another. We couldn’t be more fortunate with the family that we have and we’re completely delighted.”

Not only is the Matthews-Williams family happy and healthy, their brand is going from strength to strength too. The couple’s Spencer & Vogue podcast is a hit and Spencer has two new TV shows in the pipeline. This Easter, he’ll be taking part in BBC2’s Pilgrimage and before that he’s joining Channel 4’s The Great Celebrity Bake Off For Stand Up To Cancer, going into the tent with Jodie Whittaker, Paloma Faith and Munya Chawawa. Spencer’s uncle Bob died of cancer many years ago and his loss affected him and his family. “I felt proud to be included in the Stand Up To Cancer line-up because it’s been such a good cause and hopefully we’re able to raise some money,” says Spencer. “You’d be hard pressed to find a family who hasn’t been affected by cancer. My uncle died of cancer. My dad’s brother, Bob. He was the life and soul. I was very young when this happened but cancer affects so many millions of people. You can’t pass up the opportunity to help when the cause is so phenomenal.”

Spencer claims he isn’t a natural baker, but he did make the final of Celebrity MasterChef in 2018 and he has a competitive streak. “I was a runner-up on MasterChef,” he says. “I was baking chocolate fondants very late into the night just before the finals. I made 40 chocolate fondants in one night – just to give you a taste of the competitive nature there.” Spencer also bakes with his kids, but fears Vogue may dispute this claim. “We have baked with the kids at home,” says Spencer. “If Vogue reads this interview, she’ll be flabbergasted because it’s mostly her. We collectively bake with the kids. We make muffins and cookies. Am I a very talented, skilled baker? No, not really. I’d be nowhere without a recipe.” Whether he bakes any bona fide showstoppers in the tent, Spencer is just pleased to have made firm friends with the other celebrity bakers. And he says former Doctor Who star Jodie is the one to watch, although stops short of any spoilers. “Munya talks a big game but, to be honest, I’m not sure he’s got any skill to back it up at all,” says Spencer. “Jodie is the dark horse. She’s got a baker vibe. I think she bakes. As for Paloma, I don’t really know what to make of Paloma’s abilities – but I like her on a personal level.”

Facing judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith in the tent was the biggest test for Spencer and he admits he melted under Paul’s gaze. “Paul and Prue are icons,” he says. “Prue was just so wonderfully kind of warm all the time – though the honesty and the brutality of the judgement on that show is quite full on. It’s all for charity, but it’s quite nerve-racking when you put your masterpiece in front of them. With Paul, it’s very difficult to know what he’s thinking. His eyes are fantastic – they’re the most beautiful eyes since Bradley Cooper!”

But, while the judges gave him the collywobbles, hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding were on hand with hugs and plenty of support. “I feel very looked after by Alison,” he says. “She is just a darling – she’s already a national treasure. She brings so much positive energy to the tent and really helps kind of cut through that tension that one might feel if they were really competitive.” As for Noel, Spencer has known him for more than a decade after they appeared on Never Mind The Buzzcocks together in 2011. “Noel’s always been a bit of a legend,” says Spencer, who recalls bombing on the show. “I did Never Mind The Buzzcocks and it was terrible idea because I know very little about music, but he’s always been very kind. He’s such a lovely person and he has a great heart.” Although, Spencer admits there might have been a bit of gentle teasing too. “We yanked each other’s chain a bit,” he says. “And had a great time!”Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
