Privacy NoticeThe summer holidays may be in full swing but there’s still time to find the perfect getaway — and Tenerife has something for everyone, as we discovered on a trip taking in the highlights of this popular Canary Island. If you’re looking for a holiday that involves lots of relaxing at the poolside with a good book and a cocktail in hand, Tivoli’s recently refurbished La Caleta Tenerife Resort is the perfect place to do exactly that. Located on the island’s gorgeous Costa Adeje, the hotel offers beautiful seafront views, just the spot to enjoy the sunset in the evenings. A great choice for couples, families and groups of friends alike, La Caleta resort has three swimming pools — one saltwater, one freshwater and one that’s adults only — so whoever you’re holidaying with, you’ll have the best time at the pool. There’s also a padel club and state-of-the-art gym if you’re looking for something a little more active to do.

The spa at Tivoli La Caleta Tivoli La Caleta recently opened its new Anantara Spa, and with treatments starting from only €25, booking is a must. After your treatment make time to enjoy the spa’s other facilities, which include a luxurious spa pool, sauna, steam room and even an igloo for when the temperatures begin to soar under the Spanish sun. It’s the perfect place for some extra moments of relaxation while staying at the resort. The food at Tivoli La Caleta There are four different restaurants at La Caleta; ideal if, after a busy day out, you like knowing that you can relax and enjoy dinner then be in bed within minutes – and you’ll never get bored of the cuisine. Even if you don’t leave the resort all day, there’s a wealth of choice for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Start off with breakfast at Gusto, where you can also return in the evening for its daily dinner buffets. The culinary themes change throughout the week; one day you’ll be eating delicious Asian-fusion dishes, the next you’ll be enjoying a traditional Spanish menu. But arguably the resort’s gastronomic highlights are the three restaurants led by Portuguese chef Olivier da Costa: SEEN Beach Club, Yakuza and Guilty. SEEN offers beachfront views and some truly amazing cocktails alongside a menu filled with Canarian fish, wagyu beef and lots of delicious cheeses.

Yakuza serves up delicious sushi, with both traditional fish and veggie options available – our favourites were the salmon sashimi, California rolls and spicy tuna sushi – while the menu at Guilty features delicious burrata salads, burgers and pizzas, and just steps from the hotel’s pools.

Dolphin spotting in Tenerife La Caleta’s location is ideal for those who also want to explore what else the island has to offer, and one of the most popular things to do while in Tenerife is to step on board a whale and dolphin-watching catamaran trip. These boat tours can be booked through the hotel and are sure to delight all types of holidaymaker, from families with children to hen dos. We were lucky enough to spot some of Tenerife’s native pilot whales and lively dolphins, which swam up extremely close to the boats as we sailed around a protected area of the coast uninterrupted by shipping vessels. Towards the end of our trip the catamaran pulled up near a cove, giving us the chance to take a cooling dip in the sea. Bliss!

Teide National Park Another must-visit when in Tenerife is Teide National Park, home to the volcanic Mount Teide. If you don’t fancy walking miles and miles, explore this otherworldly park by van. This tour drives you through some of the park’s most spectacular scenery – where a number of Hollywood movies have been filmed over the years – with stops at various lookout points where you can get the best view of the volcano, its surroundings and the local wildlife. The Teide Legend Visitors’ Centre is also well worth a visit; it has a free exhibition that will teach you plenty about the history of the park and Tenerife as a whole, to help you to learn more about this popular holiday hotspot.
