Privacy NoticeAmanda Holden shared a deeply personal moment from her past, recounting the shocking words a nurse said to her following the devastating loss of her baby son. Theo was tragically stillborn at 28 weeks in 2011. Britain’s Got Talent star Amanda, who has bravely battled PTSD and sought therapy after her loss, spoke candidly on her Heart radio show back in 2022 about the difficult experiences she faced in hospital. She highlighted how the staff, despite their best intentions, sometimes struggled to provide comfort in such heartbreaking circumstances. Recounting her conversation with guest Ross Sullivan from the Aching Arms charity, Amanda, now 53, reflected on the sensitive care she received: “We lost our baby Theo at 28 weeks, and they very sensitively moved me into another room so I could deliver him without having to hear the lovely babies screaming on a normal ward.”

She continued: “Often that’s not thought about, it’s little things like that.” Amanda then recalled a particularly cruel made by a healthcare professional: “I remember the lady afterwards as well, when we went for a chat, also said: ‘I know you’re going home empty handed’.” The Britain’s Got Talent judge detailed how this choice of words made her feel and the significance of language in these situations. “So I felt like some sort of game show contestant, so it’s all of that language that I know this charity will be helping people to avoid and educate them on how best to deal with something so awful. It’s just awful.” This wasn’t the first time Amanda has spoken publicly about the loss of Theo – she previously opened up about her experience in an interview commemorating the 70th anniversary of the NHS.

Amanda shared her heart-wrenching experience: “I just remember hearing this woman just screaming and screaming and then it was actually – it was me, I realised it was me that was screaming.” She continued to describe the traumatic event, saying, “It was the most surreal, out-of-body experience and I was actually calling my daughter’s name because I was just terrified about what to tell Lexi at the time.” On recalling her final moments with her son, Amanda said, “He looked so normal and so peaceful. I held him in my arms and I said goodbye, basically.”

Amanda expressed her gratitude towards the medical team: “But I couldn’t have done it without the incredible team around us. My husband was so strong and so amazing but they got him through it too.” And then the days and months afterwards, the same team of people checked on us every single day and it’s not because I’m off the telly or famous or anything like that.” Amanda later had hypnotherapy to help her have another child after Theo was stillborn, as the traumatic experience ‘took her life away’.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
