Privacy NoticeWith their garage vibes and unforgettable raps, Mis-Teeq totally dominated the early 2000s music charts. The journey for the iconic group began back in 1997 when now-BGT judge Alesha Dixon and her fellow band member Sabrina Washington crossed paths at Dance Attic studios in Fulham, London. They initially formed an unsigned trio called Face2Face with Tina Barrett. However, Tina later left to become a part of S Club 7 after impressing Spice Girls’ impresario Simon Fuller at an audition, leading to Zena McNally and Su-Elise Nash joining the lineup, and thus Mis-Teeq was born. From 2000 to 2005, the fierce London girl group smashed records, selling 12 million albums globally, scoring seven top-ten hits in a row, and even rocking out at the Queen’s Jubilee. But what went down after they went their separate ways? From career switches to ongoing spats, let’s dive into the post-Mis-Teeq world of the Scandalous hitmakers….

Alesha Dixon Alesha, had initially planned to train as a PE teacher at Loughborough University before Mis-Teeq altered her life forever. After leaving the bacn in 2005, Alesha launched a solo career before turning her talents to TV. In 2007 she bagged the Strictly Come Dancing glitterball trophy, and two years later returned to the show as a judge before swapping the Strictly ballroom for a seat on the Britain’s Got Talent judging panel in 2012. She has remained at BGT for the last few years and will soon return to TV screens as the show’s semi-finals kick off this weekend. And while she has an extremely successful career now, this wasn’t initially the case following her departure from Miss-Teeq sand she was dropped by her record label after dropping just two singles.

Reflecting on this, she later wrote in The Big Issue: “My biggest, riskiest decision was to leave Mis-Teeq. I had been in a girl group for eight years. That was my comfort zone. But there was an instinct, a feeling towards the end of my time in the group that I wasn’t happy. And I needed to leave. I was only 25, I hadn’t paid off a mortgage, I still had bills to pay. So it was a major, major decision. I signed a new record deal and spent a year-and-a-half making an album that the record company shelved, then found myself out of a deal. So I was like, ‘oh my God, what have I done?'” Sabrina Washington Back in 2020, it was reported that Sabrina, who had been the band’s lead vocalist, was embroiled in a legal battle over song royalties, as she argued she was entitled to the same cut as Alesha. Alesha clapped back, insisting her ex-bandmate has ‘no reason’ for the lawsuit. He spokesperson told the Daily Mail: “Alesha wrote the raps on both Why and All I Want and that is why she gets a split, the rest of the song was written by a production team. “Sabrina was the lead vocalist, but certainly not the main writer. In terms of the entire Mis-Teeq catalogue, Alesha does receive a larger share as she contributed more the the songs, including writing all the raps.”

There’s no love lost between Alesha and Sabrina, who took some shots at the former’s singing voice in 2008 when she said: “A lot of people say Alesha should have stuck to MC-ing because her voice isn’t that strong and I agree. I did a lot of the work in Mis-Teeq.” Sabrina has since referred to her time in the band as ‘bittersweet’, sharing that she was told she was “too dark to be on any covers” and that “black women don’t sell magazines.” Upon saying goodbye to the group, she launched a successful homeware range, Home by SW, and a record label called Swash Music. In 2010 she had a stint in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! and later made an appearance on hip-hop comedy panel show, Don’t Hate The Playaz, with Maya Jama. Su-Elise Nash

Before joining the band, backing singer Su-Elise was studying for a business degree at Middlesex University. After the band’s split, she returned to academia, earning a teaching qualification and fulfilling her dream of opening the Su-Elise Stage School in Gravesend, Kent, with additional branches in Dulwich, Brentford, Cranbrooke, Croydon, Paddock Wood. She lent her vocals to Lethal Bizzle’s 2009 hit, Not Going Out Tonight, and now divides her time between London and Sydney, Australia, where she resides with her boyfriend. Su-Elise had made a number of TV appearances, including Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Live from Studio Five, and Freshly Squeezed. She also appeared as a judge on 2008’s Britain’s Next Urban Superstar! Zena McNally

Zena only appeared on Miss-Teeq’s first single Why, before leaving the band in 2001 in order to pursue a solo career. However after releasing two songs Let’s Get This Party Started in 2003, and Been Around the World in 2004, she stopped releasing new music. In 2007, she hosted the BBC 1Xtra Breakfast Show alongside Trevor Nelson. She left this role in 2008 to relocate to the US, after tying the knot with Chicago Fire Soccer Club player Cory Gibbs. The pair then divorced in 2014, and Zena is thought to have remained in the UK. She is reportedly now working in entertainment management in Los Angeles and is also the director of a property investment company.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
