Privacy NoticeFormer England footballer Jermain Defoe has tied the knot with his beauty therapist beau in an incredible £200k ceremony at a stunning country house. The ex-Spurs player wed 40 year old Scot Donna Tiernay at Cliveden House in front of 250 guests on Saturday, including fellow football stars. Mum of one Donna looked elegant in a long white bridal dress with a plunging neckline, white sleeves and a traditional veil. The business woman clutched a beautiful bouquet of white flowers which perfectly contrasted Jermain’s cream jacket and waistcoat. The lavish nuptials took place in the 376 acre National Trust estate’s floral garden where the couple exchanged vows on a stage surrounded by a 20ft wall of colourful flowers.

Guests then enjoyed a reception which closed with a huge light display outside. The five-star Cliveden House is the notorious venue of the Profumo affair, where former war minister Jack Profumo started a relationship with Christine Keeler, just 19, in July 1961. This was one of the biggest political scandals in the 20th century.

Football stars in attendance included Tottenham assistant first team coach Ledley King, ex Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Philips, and ex West Ham player Carlton Cole. Carlton wrote on Instagram that the “beautiful” wedding’s “vibes were correct”. Jermain proposed to Donna in August 2021 at the Blythswood Square Hotel, decorating the room with rose petals, heart shaped balloons, and the words ‘Marry Me’.

The diamond ring was said to have been worth tens of thousands of pounds. Jermain’s dating life before Donna was tumultuous, consisting of a number of flings with reality stars and models. He was even engaged to retail manager Charlotte Mears in 2007 before it broke off and he pursued a relationship with her friend, ex Miss Great Britain Danielle Lloyd. That relationship also ended, and he dated Celebrity Big Brother winner Chantelle Houghton for five months in 2009. Jermain was also linked with Welsh model Imogen Thomas and X Factor winner Alexandra Burke.

Jermain played for Rangers, West Ham and England during his extensive football career. He was the Premier League’s ninth-highest goal scorer of all time with 162 strikes. His England squad reached the quarter finals of the Euros in 2012. In March this year, he announced his retirement from professional football after 22 years, which started at just 17 years old. He explained that the decision was “really tough” to make, but had been made after discussing with “family and those closest to me”. Jermain was awarded an OBE for his services to football and his Jermain Defoe Foundation in the 2018 Birthday Honours. During a short stint at Sunderland, he formed a relationship with Bradley Lowery, a terminally ill six year old fan, and was often seen with the young boy before or after matches, until he tragically died from cancer in July 2017.Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
