Privacy Notice Away from Piccadilly Circus and Oxford Street take yourself a little further to the ultra-modern and urban area of Battersea where you can find one of the most stunning and sophisticated spots for afternoon tea. Up on the 14th floor of Art’otel London Battersea is where you can find the super chic JOIA bar serving afternoon tea every Saturday and Sunday – perfect for a girl’s day out or to treat a loved one. This luxurious afternoon tea experience is new to JOIA so we jumped at the chance to pay a visit, which we quickly found to be the ideal spot for taking in the views of London while sampling sweet and savoury flavours, with a glass of bubbly in hand.

As soon as we walked into JOIA bar we were instantly impressed with their chic interiors of plush pink seats, speckled tables, yellow pastel walls and gold mirrors and wall lightings. Not to mention the panoramic views of Power Station, Battersea Park and London’s skyline that make this bar so spectacular. We were taken to our cosy table, located in the corner of the bar, where we took in the sprawling views of the city, before choosing our preferred tea to kick things off. We went for a White Peony tea – unopened silver buds of emerald green leaves of the White Peony loose leaf white tea – delicious!

The tea selection was something that quickly impressed us. Push aside an English Breakfast tea, here you can try a selection of Oolong, black, green and herbal teas for something a little different that’s miles away from your Twinnings or PG tips. To accompany our mouth-watering spread we also opted for a glass of champagne for an extra touch of class! Our afternoon tea for two arrived and we were spoilt for choice as to what to start with first, sandwiches, cakes or scones? That’s the ultimate question. With four warm fluffy scones to delve into, we couldn’t resist tucking into these first, which brought the most controversial question of all, is it jam or cream first? After we settled on this, (jam first!) we dived in and they were just as delicious as they looked! Soft, light and sweet – and clearly freshly homemade.
We were obsessed with the interiors!

We had a selection of sandwiches to try from salted beef, horseradish, watercress, egg and Dijon mustard mayonnaise, to the smoked salmon, cucumber, dill and cream cheese – and we honestly couldn’t tell you which one we preferred. With the beef offering that salty hit, the egg for a lighter option and the salmon for a refreshing bite. It is just us, or do sandwiches always taste better when they’re cut into small rectangles? At this point we were beginning to get full, but did that stop us from sampling every treat in front of us… absolutely not! For the cakes, we’re indulged in a cinnamon custard tart with raspberries, a chocolate & banana mousse with white port & lime cream and a pear & almond choux bun, passion fruit crémeux. Bursting with flavours the small sizes were perfect so we could comfortably try each one without really pushing our waistline.
Just look at that mouthwatering spread!

But if we had to choose our favourite, it would have to be the cinnamon custard tart with its gooey centre, pastry edge and zingy raspberries which complemented the flavours. With such a grand presentation of the afternoon tea and placed in such a relaxing vibe, we found ourselves soaking in our surroundings while slowly getting through our treats. There really was no need to rush off, so much so that we found ourselves there for almost three hours, not wanting to leave our sophisticated and totally relaxing set-up.

We sipped our champagne, drank our tea and enjoyed every bite on our stand and wished every Saturday could be this luxurious. The afternoon tea at JOIA is definitely worth a visit, whether that’s for a celebration or just a weekend treat with the cakes, sandwiches and scones some of the best we’ve tried – if not the fluffiest scones we’ve ever sampled. You can book Art’otel Afternoon Tea in the JOIA bar here. An afternoon tea is £55pp or for an added touch of indulgence you add a glass of Telmont Brut Réserve Champagne for £65pp. Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
