Privacy NoticeFans of Britain’s Got Talent have expressed their outrage and reported the show to Ofcom following what they called a ‘distasteful’ audition. On Saturday, drag act Chantaaaal, who describes herself as a French femme fatale, took to the stage in hopes of securing a spot in the live semi-finals. Initially donning a navy blue cloak, Chantaaal later stripped down to an outfit resembling doomed ocean liner the Titanic, complete with a corset shaped like the ship’s front, a black and yellow smoke stack on her head, and a back fan depicting an iceberg and the ocean. As she belted out Celine Dion’s ‘My Heart Will Go On’, judge Alesha Dixon was seen bursting into laughter.

Despite Simon Cowell’s initially unimpressed expression, Alesha, Bruno Tonioli and Amanda Holden stood up to cheer her on. The flamboyant performer then whipped out a whistle and breezily produced life jackets, recreating the final moments from the film based on the tragic sinking ship. Eventually, even Simon cracked a smile and laughed, while Ant and Dec recreated the iconic ‘flying’ scene from the movie backstage, with Ant holding Dec from behind. This comes after Ant makes his return to work, which made him beam as his son Wilder made an adorable appearance at the Britain’s Got Talent studios.

However, viewers at home were appalled that the infamous 1912 disaster, which claimed the lives of 1,517 people, was being made light of for entertainment on primetime TV. Some were so offended that Ofcom received 78 complaints about the ‘distasteful’ audition. “Bit tasteless to show his camp number there,” one fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter), while a second added: “I’ll be honest, that Titanic Drag Act was SUPER distasteful and not funny in the slightest.”

“Why do people think it is funny to mock tragedies like Titanic just because it was over a hundred years ago? Over a thousand people died in that disaster. It is no laughing matter,” a third chimed in. “Yeah let’s all laugh at the Titanic because it’s a drag act, I’m sure the families of those that were on the ship find it f**king hilarious that a man dressed as a woman dressed as the ship is taking the piss out of the disaster that took so many lives,” a fourth commented sarcastically. “I actually don’t know how that Titanic act made it to television” a fifth expressed in disbelief. “Like people edited and approved of this ? ! ! ! It’s disgusting, people DIED! ! It’s a tragedy it is NOT funny. Really really distasteful.”

However, some viewers found the performance brilliantly entertaining, with one saying, “i know im miles behind on #BGT but the drag artist who dressed up as the titanic. absoultely brilliant, 1 of favourite auditions of this yr”. Chantaaaal, the performer in question, isn’t new to the ‘Got Talent’ scene, having previously competed on France’s La France a un incroyable talent last year, where they reached the semi-finals before being eliminated. Their BGT audition marked the end of the pre-recorded performances, as the show now moves into the live segments. On Saturday’s show some fans were also left furious as a little girl was seen crying on stage after the live results determined that her choir group was going home. It was left to the judges to decide whether Japanese double dutch group Haribo or Ravi’s Dream Team choir would be going through to the Grand Final, which takes place on Sunday, 2 June.Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
