Privacy NoticeAs Wimbledon dominates screens this summer, fans are going wild for presenter Qasa Alom on social media – with many dubbing him “handsome”. The broadcaster, who hosts the BBC’s Today at Wimbledon show, is bringing the tournament into the homes of millions across the nation but it appears not only is the prestigious sporting event capturing attention, so is he. One fan wrote underneath a picture of Qasa: “So handsome,” while another said: “Do you have to work at being so handsome?”. A third follower called him: “Smooooth,” and a fourth swooned and commented: “sensational.” Qasa is at the helm of Wimbledon this year hosting the highlights show on BBC Two each evening, and it appears it is only fitting for the journalist who enjoyed playing tennis when he was growing up.

Speaking to the Mirror, Qasa, however, admitted he knows he was fortunate to have free courts near his home in Birmingham but realises not everyone is as lucky – at least not in the UK. He said: “We know sports funding has been cut a lot in the UK for a long time and community clubs have been cut a lot, so that’s something that is hugely unfortunate. I remember when I was living in Germany and there were just tennis courts everywhere. “Whether it’s clubs or whether it’s public parks, there are tennis courts all over the place. So it’s perhaps just a little bit more visible there, whereas maybe that’s something that needs to happen here. But also I think there is some good work going on.”

Qasa continued: “The problem is we live in a country that’s quite wet, and also for a large part of the year it gets dark at 4, 5, 6 o’clock,” he admits. “At the tennis club I play at, floodlights are something like £4 for half an hour, and I can barely afford that so how are kids going to afford that?! So it’s really hard.” Meanwhile, fans have been going crazy for this year’s coverage of Wimbledon but were left devastated when it was revealed that Andy Murray will not play singles at Wimbledon due to recovering from back surgery last weekend However the two-time former champion has committed to competing in doubles with his brother Jamie. A statement from Murray’s representatives read: “Unfortunately, despite working incredibly hard on his recovery since his operation just over a week ago, Andy has taken the very difficult decision not to play the singles this year. “As you can imagine, he is extremely disappointed but has confirmed that he will be playing in the doubles with Jamie and looks forward to competing at Wimbledon for the last time.”Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
