The drama begins when Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) organises a birthday bash for his dad Stevie (Alan Ford) at The Queen Vic. As the Mitchells gather, Billy tells his son Will that Stevie and his long-lost mum, Val, share the same birthday. However, he confesses that he has no idea where his mother is. Later at The Vic, Stevie is touched by the efforts Billy and Will (Freddie Phillips) have put into the party, leading Billy to give an emotional speech about his father and send good wishes to his mother, wherever she might be. But the mood changes when Phil arrives and pulls Stevie aside to reveal the evidence that Ritchie has found about him, which isn’t good news. Back at No. 18, Stevie confesses to Billy that his mother has passed away, with Teddy witnessing the admission.

Stevie then shares the tragic story of Val’s death with his shocked sons, Billy and Teddy, before making a significant decision. This shocking revelation sends Billy into a tailspin, and he turns to his cousin Phil for advice, who tells him to see Stevie for who he truly is. Later, Teddy tries to convince Billy not to let this bombshell ruin their relationship. But could this be the end of Billy and Stevie’s father-son bond? As the week unfolds, there’s more drama in store for Billy when Stevie decides to bid farewell to Walford. A distraught Billy confides in Phil, who advises him to wise up about Stevie’s true nature.

However, during a conversation, Will misinterprets Billy’s words and accidentally reveals that Phil framed Stevie. An enraged Billy confronts Phil for trying to sabotage his newfound family. Stevie pleads with Billy and Teddy to listen to his side of the story and apologises for his actions before making plans to leave Walford. After another heated encounter with his nephew Phil, Stevie asks Big Mo for a favour. Phil is livid when he discovers his car has been stolen and calls the police, while Stevie requests Billy to allow him to say goodbye to his grandchildren. Later, Billy and Teddy organise a family dinner at Walford East but exclude Phil until Jay (Jamie Borthwick) invites him.

Teddy attempts to mend fences within the family as Phil joins them, but a confrontation between the men soon breaks out. Phil continues to alienate himself from those closest to him. Meanwhile, on the other side of the Square, Reiss Colwell’s financial woes worsen when he receives a medical bill for Debbie. During Tuesday’s episode of EastEnders (July 9), Reiss is under immense pressure as he faces an £18,000 bill for his wife Debbie Colwell’s care fees. Debbie has been in a care home for a while now after suffering a severe stroke and remains comatose. Reiss (played by Jonny Freeman) has drained Debbie’s savings to fund his girlfriend Sonia Fowler’s (Natalie Cassidy) IVF treatment as they yearn to start a family together, leaving no money left for Debbie’s care.

However, as a nervous Sonia goes in for her embryo transfer, Reiss receives a call informing him that Debbie’s care fees are three months overdue. In response, Reiss decides to rent out the spare room to earn some extra cash, unbeknownst to Sonia. But she soon discovers his plan and is not pleased with his latest scheme. Reiss confesses his financial struggles to Sonia, who reassures him that they’ll find a solution but firmly states they won’t be getting a lodger. However, Reiss gets a break when Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) offers him a job to chase up her outstanding invoices.

Spotting a chance, Reiss opts to use some creative accounting to pad his pockets while collecting the money owed to Sharon. He feels guilty when Sharon pays him his wage, plus a little extra for doing the job on short notice. Back at home, Reiss lies to Sonia, claiming he has enough to cover Debbie’s care fees. Will Reiss’ web of lies and deceit be uncovered?
