Privacy NoticeSusanna Reid has announced that she’s leaving Good Morning Britain temporarily as she heads off on a summer break. The presenter ended the ITV show’s Wednesday 10 July episode by telling viewers “goodbye” as she revealed that she would be absent from the show until September. Instead, Charlotte Hawkins and Ed Balls will be taking over hosting duties as she heads on holiday. Susanna Reid has been the face of Good Morning Britain since 2014, presenting alongside the likes of Piers Morgan, Ben Shephard, Kate Garraway, Adil Ray, Richard Madeley and Ed Balls over the last 10 years. She typically hosts the show Monday to Wednesday with either Richard or Ed, while Kate Garraway takes over on Thursdays and Fridays.

“It’s now time for me to go off on a break which means I say goodbye to you at home,” Susanna told Good Morning Britain viewers. “You never know, I might pop up in the meantime! “But otherwise I will see you back in September,” she added, to which Ed said: “Do you have to? Can’t you just stay a bit?” Susanna reassured Ed that he was in the “capable hands” of his fellow co-stars. “That includes our lovely green highlighter this morning Charlotte [Hawkins], our lovely yellow highlighter Laura Tobin. The pink highlight is off – I’ll see you in September, thanks for your company,” she added, referring to the brightly coloured outfits worn by the presenting team. Susanna signed off her final broadcast until September by cheering on the England football team ahead of their UEFA semi-final against the Netherlands tonight on ITV1. “Come on England!” she shouted. It’s not the first time that Susanna has taken a short break from the ITV show, with the broadcaster heading on hiatus for a few weeks back in March.

“I’m off for Easter, please don’t panic, I’m back in a couple of weeks!” she said at the time. While her co-host Richard Madeley seemingly confirmed that he wasn’t taking time off for Easter, quipping: “Lucky old you!” Earlier this month, Susanna shut down her co-host Ed after the pair exchanged banter with competitions host Andi Peters. After Susanna praised Andi’s location of scenic Norfolk Broads, Ed responded: “There’s only one downside though, there are no locks. It’s flat. You know if you go on a canal boat you go up and down because there are locks? Well, there are no locks on the Broads.” To which Susanna responded: “No, and there are no locks in the sea either. Does that put you off going in the sea?” Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV1 and ITVX.
