Privacy NoticeBBC Breakfast’s Carol Kirkwood was quick to dismiss Naga Munchetty’s playful suggestion that she might attempt a daring slackline challenge, after a segment featuring tightrope walker Jaan Roose left the studio buzzing. Charlie Stayt had informed viewers about Roose’s impressive but nearly record-breaking feat: “No-one has done this before. Travelling 3.6km across a 2cm wide rope – slacklining is what they call it – took three hours. “He made his way all the way across, but 18 metres before reaching the end, he had a fall. He was so close to reaching his goal. He’s made history because no-one has done this before over that stretch of water, but he was just short of the World Record for the longest slackline walk.” Naga expressed her shock at the stunt, especially Roose’s tumble near the finish line: “]It’s bad enough walking across a rope that’s 2cm wide but at the highest point, the walk was 265 metres in the air! I hadn’t seen him fall, and it did make me jump even though he was all strapped in with harnesses! He was fine.” When the camera cut to Carol for the weather, Naga cheekily suggested: “Carol’s going to try it next, when the weather improves! Hello.”

With a chuckle, Carol firmly set the record straight: “Not a chance! Even just watching it gives me the heebie-jeebies Naga. Good morning everybody!” The brief awkwardness was soon forgotten as Carol smoothly transitioned to delivering the day’s weather details, reports the Daily Star. This incident followed a previous on-air moment last week that left Carol “shaking in her shoes” after another interaction with Naga. During a light-hearted exchange about a child chess prodigy on the show, Naga Munchetty joked with Carol Kirkwood: “Do you know that I often think that for Carol, there’s a game of chess played here every day, it’s like you’re always trying to anticipate the next move, aren’t you Carol?” To which Carol responded in agreement, “Yes, trying to work out what’s going to come my way Naga.”

Naga then chimed in with, “Exactly, always slightly unnerving, which is quite enjoyable sometimes.” Carol humorously added, “I’m standing here shaking in my shoes,” prompting Naga to playfully counter, “No you’re not!” resulting in an awkward yet amusing moment of laughter.

Away from the cameras, Carol has been vocal in defending her relationship with new hubby Steve Randall. The 62 year old weather presenter, who tied the knot with 48 year old Steve last year, has hit back at critics of their 14-year age gap, stating, “If our ages were the other way around, nobody would ever mention it. I’ve had a few comments but I don’t care.”Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
