Privacy NoticeThe Love Island cast have been given special treatment and allowed to break a major rule for a one-off event. Producers usually have strict rules on the ITV dating show that don’t allow islanders to know what is going on in the outside world while they are in the villa. But as England took on Spain in the Euros final, the islanders were not only informed but allowed to watch the match in an unprecedented move. Show spoilers reveal that Islanders received a text and, in a Love Island first, it’s relating to news from the outside world. The text reads: “Islanders, tonight you will be able to watch the England football team play Spain in the final of the European Championships! #ComeOnEngland” With their spirits lifted, all the Islanders cheer and jump in the pool. Later that evening, they get ready for the all-important game, watching from the bedroom with flags and bunting as they cheer on England.

But of course, they are soon met with the despair at the game’s result, which saw England lose and Spain crowned the European champions. Following the disappointing result, the Islanders headed outside to raise a toast as Reuben has a personal message for the England squad, saying: “Not the result we wanted tonight everyone, but I’d say the boys did well, we got to the final and they did the country proud.” It come as Love Island fans were seriously split over the decision by show runners not to reschedule the latest episode, which ended up going head-to-head with the live Euros 2024 final featuring England versus Spain.

While viewers managed to catch the first half of the nail-biting final on ITV1 and BBC One, they were then faced with a tough choice. They had to decide whether to miss out on Love Island and watch it later, or forgo the conclusion of the football match. For some fans, the choice was simple, with a few confessing they were “bored of the match” and eager to switch over to the drama in the villa. Conversely, others were more invested in the football finale, choosing to stick with the game over the latest happenings in the villa.

However, a significant number of fans were disappointed that Love Island wasn’t postponed until 10pm as it had been for a previous England game. Especially since it was the final, some called for a schedule change so that both events could be enjoyed live. One fan took to social media, imploring: “Can you move Love Island till 10pm? Everyone is watching the Euro finals.” Another fan tweeted: “Move it to 10:00 pm,” while a third expressed frustration with: “What are they playing at.”Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
