Privacy NoticeMusic sensation Cher has taken her fans by complete surprise with her latest career move, which saw her pop up in a classic EastEnders scene – although soap lovers shouldn’t get too excited just yet. The 78-year-old was seen duetting her hit song ‘I Got You Babe’ with EastEnders character Barry Evans (played by Shaun Williamson) as the rest of the cast watched on in The Queen Vic pub, however the clip was just part of Cher’s starring role in the advert for U, UKTV’s new streaming service. In the advert, Cher is presented with streaming service U and asked to help share the news. “Stop – I can see it now,” she says, before the singer is then seen making cameos in a variety of shows available to stream on U. From Mad Men to World’s Most Dangerous Roads, Cher is superimposed in various TV series as she sings her hit song ‘I Got You’.

In one snippet, Cher is seen serenading Nicola Walker’s character in Annika before suddenly appearing in the kitchen of Gemma Atkinson and Gorka Marquez, who star in their own reality show on the streamer, Gemma and Gorka: Life Behind the Lens. Barry from EastEnders takes over the duet at some point on the Queen Vic stage, while Jimmy Carr begins reading out a portion of the lyrics for his turn on the mic. Speaking about working with Cher to launch the new streaming service, UKTV’s Chief Marketing Officer Penny Brough said: “Following ten months of research, design work and asset creation, I couldn’t be more excited to see U come to life on and off air. We’ve taken a bold approach to our new branding, and this has been matched by our biggest ever multi-media campaign and our launch advert featuring Cher, one of the most recognisable women in the world. “Our aim was to deliver an advert that’s authentic, memorable, creates talkability and feels every bit as dynamic as our new Masterbrand U. Cher’s iconic song I Got You Babe perfectly aligns with our campaign tagline “We’ve Got U”, reflecting the depth and range of almost 8,500 hours of free content available on the U streaming service.”

Earlier this year, Cher opened up about her relationship with 37-year-old boyfriend Alexander Edwards and defended their four-decade age gap. She said in an interview that the relationship had taught her it’s “never too late” and to not think about “how long it’s going to last”. She told PEOPLE: “No matter what happens, I love being with him. He makes me laugh, and we have fun. What I learned is that it’s never too late. “If you wrote out all the statistics, you would go, ‘Well, this is doomed.’ But we’ve been together a year, and if it was just a year, it would’ve been worth it. I’ve had the best time.” She added: “If you have happiness, you can’t think about how long it’s going to last. You have to think about “How does it feel?” and live in the moment.”Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
