Privacy NoticeEastEnders has confirmed the return of a soap legend 34 years after their first appearance on the BBC show. David Wicks (Michael French) made his bombshell debut all the way back in 1993. The villain turned up at dad Pete Beale’s (Peter Dean) funeral and went on to be one of the most famous faces of the soap. As Walford’s notorious love rat, David was central to several big storylines. From fathering plenty of children to getting into violent scuffles, his time on the show was not short of drama. David nearly struck up a romance with Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer) before learning she was actually his daughter, and he also famously had a feud with step-brother, Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt).

Actor Michael French ended up leaving in 1996 though – leaving viewers gutted. But the villain made an epic comeback to the soap more than a decade later in 2012. David reunited with estranged partner Carol Jackson (Lindsey Coulson) only to suffer a heart attack at their wedding.

And in 2014, he said goodbyes to Walford, and Carol, and set off to America. But now, 10 years on and EastEnders has confirmed David is making a return for a short stint later this year. Speaking of his return, actor Micheal said: “I feel honoured to be asked to reprise the role of David Wicks once again. It may only be a brief visit, but we know from his past that David never fails to create a lot of drama in a very short time.”
David will be back in Walford later this year
Meanwhile, EastEnders’ Executive Producer Chris Clenshaw, added: “David Wicks is undoubtedly one of EastEnders’ most beloved rogues, and we are thrilled to welcome the talented Michael French back to the legendary role as we lead up to the show’s 40th anniversary. David’s character was never shy of drama during his previous stints, and I can assure you this return will be no different.” David Wicks’ return is one of many for the BBC soap. His former flame Cindy ‘returned from the dead’ last year, and Jane Beale (Laurie Brett) made a shock comeback this week – much to the delight of fans. And last month it was confirmed that Chrissie Watts, played by Tracy-Ann Oberman, is heading back to Walford, 19 years since her exit. EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
