As a stage four cancer survivor herself, having been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cervical cancer when she was just 35 years old, writer Jane was given a one-in-20 chance of surviving five years post-diagnosis. However, despite the prospects given to her at the time, Jane has been in remission since 2004. According to MailOnline, she began doing her own research after her prescribed medical approach appeared to be faltering and began taking different medication that was being used to treat other common health conditions instead. And now, Jane has used her own experience to help others by writing How To Starve Cancer. As described on her book’s website, How To Starve Cancer claims to show readers how they can manage their illness by making a series of lifestyle changes, such as what they are putting into their bodies.

“She [Jane] used herself as a human guinea pig, putting together a cocktail of low toxicity drugs, not normally used for cancer,” the website reads. In addition to this, it says that Jane also took “powerful supplements” and followed a “low glycaemic diet” (also known as a low-GI diet) – an eating plan which is based on how different foods affect our blood sugar levels. “These ‘starved’ her cancer of glucose, glutamine and fat, which she demonstrates with her ingenious, easy-to-follow ‘McLelland Metro Map’,” the website adds.
