Privacy NoticeJanet Street-Porter, 77, joined her Loose Women co-stars on today’s (Monday, October 21) show from the comfort of her living room while she recovers from hip surgery. The outspoken presenter opened up about her big operation with Ruth Langsford, Katie Piper, Brenda Edwards and Coleen Nolan. She revealed she was too stressed to eat or sleep prior to the operation but also shared a promising update. The former journalist confirmed she was feeling “mentally much better” following the surgery, which was a relief to her co-stars and ITV viewers alike. Janet said: “It was really depressing me, I lost weight through the stress of it, I wasn’t eating very much. I was a complete mega misery-wad and my normal misery face.

“Now it is up to me to really try to stick to physio and do all these exercises. Sleeping is not that easy, but mentally, I’ve come out better. “I took the decision five days ago to stop the heavy-duty painkillers because otherwise you are cocooned. “Last week, I went to my house in Whitstable and had two sets of physio. I’m putting myself in the hands of professionals, but you know me, I’m stubborn. But I’ve got to do the exercises.” She also shared an update on Instagram today of herself walking by the sea holding a crutch while smiling – and captioned it: “I’m walking without crutches now! This one is to fend off irritating kids on scooters… said hi to my gang on Loose Women today- back soon xxx.” Her fans rallied behind the star, with one writing: “You are doing so well, Janet. You are an absolute legend. Keep it up and come back soon.” Another penned: “Lovely to see you out and about. Nothing like good Norfolk fresh air to make you feel better.” Prior to the operation, Janet told her Loose Women pals she was concerned about going under the knife. She admitted on the show earlier this month: “I can’t think about anything else. As I’m sitting here, I’m shaking, and my hands are freezing cold. I keep dreaming about it. “I’m just going to go into hospital on Friday, have the operation on Friday afternoon, stay in hospital for a few days and then really, really work at rehab and physio so that I can come back as soon as possible.” Janet has been part of the show since 2011, and Coleen admitted in recent weeks that it was ‘really sad’ that Janet was going through a tough time with her health.
