Privacy NoticeLove Island star Jess White has opened up about her clothing “nightmare” on the ITV2 show – and revealed that some girls were banned from wearing outfits that could clash with the one worn by host Maya Jama. Jess claimed that whilst in the villa, the girls were told they couldn’t wear certain colours that Maya would go onto wear in the same episode. However, a show insider has said that Maya is “never involved nor is she ever made aware” of the production team’s wardrobe decisions for the islanders. Speaking to OK!’s Love Island Dumping Debrief, which arrives on the OK! website on Sunday 21 July, Jess and Hugo Godfroy spilled the latest tea from the Majorca villa after becoming the latest pair to leave the show. Stockport based Jess revealed that she could not use “90 percent” of her wardrobe after finding that it would cause the cameras to “strobe” – which happens when the studio lights flicker on a pattern-heavy material. “We had no clothes, 90 percent of our stuff strobed to the point where we said, ‘eBay – can you find us clothes? We were told by the voice of God [the producers] that we needed our own fashion – but we had nothing. We all just re-wore the same outfits.”

She added that some of the girls were also banned from wearing certain colours if that’s what Maya was wearing on the nights where she would enter the villa. “The night of the Casa recoupling, Maya was wearing red. Emma [Milton] and Mimii [Ngulube] wanted to wear red but they couldn’t. They thought it might be a strobing situation but we now know it’s because Maya was wearing red. Another night, we weren’t allowed to wear black and that’s when she came in wearing black,” Jess said. “Obviously, the moment is all about Maya so we need to make sure she’s looking her best. If you’re told you can’t wear red for anybody, it’s got to be for her because she’s so stunning.” A show insider said: “Maya is never involved nor is she ever made aware of any wardrobe decisions made by the production team in relation to looks worn by the Islanders.” Meanwhile, Jess also revealed that the Hideaway wasn’t used much in this series due to an unaired rule for the contestants. “The actual Hideaway didn’t get used as much this year because you could only go in the Hideaway with someone who wasn’t in your couple. You weren’t allowed to go in there in your couple otherwise loads of couples would have gone in there.
Jess and Hugo were one of the latest couples to be dumped from Love Island 2024
“For the most part, except for Joey and Grace, I don’t think anyone has actually slept in there who’s not in a couple. And the terrace isn’t used as much because it’s really high up. To get up, it’s quite a trek.” You can watch the full interview on Sunday 21 July when OK!’s Love Island Dumping Debrief arrives on YouTube and the OK! website.
