Privacy NoticeFormer Emmerdale heartthrob Ian Kelsey has a very different job 23 years since he left the Yorkshire village as Dave Glover. It was thanks to his father that initiated the hobby which ultimately turned into a new career for the doting father of two. Ian, who is now 57, became a household name as the dashing Dave Glover on Emmerdale from 1994 until the character’s tragic demise in 2001. Longtime viewers will recall Dave’s steamy affair with the iconic Kim Tate, reports Leeds Live. Off-screen, Ian married singer-songwriter Mia Michaels in 2004, and they welcomed two children, Layla-Beau and Ivy-Julianna. He split from Mia in 2016 and is now in a relationship with actress Beth Cordingly.

Despite his fame, Ian prefers to keep his personal life under wraps, making him somewhat of an enigma off-camera. However, in a turn of events, the former soap star has now turned his attention to photography, a passion he’s had since he was younger. Speaking about his U-turn in career, he told The Brighton Magazine: “My dad taught me how to use a dark room when I was in my early teens and ever since then I have always had a camera to hand.” He went on to explain the reason before the career shift and said: “It’s hard sometimes when you’re method of feeding mouths is by working away from home, and most of the time just to stay afloat, never mind saving anything, so that made me look at a way of keeping myself at home but able to turn down long tours for peanuts and still put food on the table.

“That was the day I opened my Twitter app and started Ian Kelsey Photography” Beyond his time in Emmerdale, Ian’s career has seen him take on roles in Coronation Street, Casualty, and Doctors, with his characters Vinny Ashford, Patrick Spiller, and Howard Bellamy all facing grim fates. During a former interview, Ian candidly remarked: “The problem with me is that I’m too honest for my own good. I get this three-year itch. I got it on Emmerdale and Casualty, same on Doctors too.” “So I’ll say to the producers, ‘Look, I think I’m done, I need to move on’ instead of leaving it until I’m a day away from signing a new contract so they can’t kill me off. The writers start rubbing their hands with glee, going ‘how can we lose this character in a dramatic fashion? ‘.” “So I’ve been killed off four times now. I have three coffin plaques for my characters I put them on my Christmas tree.” His character’s storyline came to an end in Emmerdale when he tragically succumbed to injuries sustained in a fire. Yet, Ian is keen on the idea of revisiting the Yorkshire-based drama.

In the world of soaps, where the dead often rise, Ian previously shared his thoughts with Inside Soap on how he could possibly re-enter the scene. “I suppose what needs to happen is Dave Glover’s twin brother needs to come back and claim rights to Jamie (Tate),” he mused. “He’d have a different walk but he’d look quite like Dave.” With a twinkle in his eye, Ian suggested: “I’d come back into the show and sweep Kim off her feet can we make that happen?” It’s a twist that would surely delight Emmerdale enthusiasts. In other chats, Ian has humorously likened himself to the ‘Sean Bean of soaps’, alluding to his knack for portraying characters that meet untimely fates. Ian has also enjoyed a successful career on stage, starring in productions like Legally Blonde and Chicago.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
