Privacy NoticeJenna Coleman is currently starring in BBC drama The Jetty playing Detective Ember Manning and is always brushing up against famous faces. However there’s a role from Jenna’s past where she was alongside two period drama stars. Jenna rose to fame in Emmerdale (where she played Jasmine Thomas), but it was her next role was where she met Bridgerton’s Phoebe Dynevor (who plays Daphne Bridgerton) and Sophie McShera (Downton Abbey’s Daisy Mason). All three women starred in Waterloo Road where they joined series five as new pupils. During the series that aired in 2009 on BBC One, Waterloo Road merged with a private school, John Fosters, which saw Lindsay James (Jenna), Siobhan Mailey (Phoebe) and Ros McCain (Sophie) join the school.

Jenna’s Waterloo Road character, Lindsay, had arguably the biggest storyline of the series. In the first few episodes, Lindsay’s mum was arrested for murdering her father. In episode nine of the series, Lindsay went to court, accompanied by headteacher Rachel Mason (Eva Pope) to see her mother’s trial. Lindsay broke down after questioning and revealed she was the one who murdered her dad. Jenna, Phoebe and Sophie all left Waterloo Road after the one series.
Sophie’s character Ros was Lindsay James’ best mate
Jenna was 23-years-old at the time of filming Waterloo Road where she played a Year 12 pupil. And she told TV Times in 2009 that it was ‘surreal’. Jenna told them at the time: “It was surreal sitting in a classroom doing chemistry lessons again! And it felt weird putting on the uniform. “At my school we didn’t wear uniforms in sixth form, so I haven’t worn one since I was 16. My school uniform was a bottle-green colour and we didn’t wear ties as we had dicky bows. So I didn’t know how to do up Lindsey’s tie and had to get someone in the costume department to teach me!”
Jenna is now playing Detective Ember Manning in The Jetty
Since then all three actresses have had their own successes with Jenna going on to star in Doctor Who, Victoria, The Cry and Wilderness. Jenna also recently revealed she is expecting her first baby with Jamie Childs after cradling her baby bump at a promotional event for The Jetty in June. Meanwhile, Phoebe’s breakthrough role came with the first series of Bridgerton where she played the lead character of Daphne who fell in love with the Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page). Phoebe revealed she was engaged to American actor-producer Cameron Fuller in May 2024 after being pictured wearing an engagement ring.

Sophie went on to become a household name after starring in Downton Abbey where she played assistant cook Daisy. Sophie has also appeared in The Job Lot, and has starred in The Gallows Pole with Michael Socha.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
