Privacy NoticeJames Corden has shared that he’s put the final touches on ‘Gavin and Stacey,’ confirming it’s the end of the road for the cherished sitcom. The 45 year old actor, who co-writes the show with Ruth Jones, announced earlier this year that fans could look forward to one last holiday special set to air on BBC on Christmas Day (Wednesday 25 December). The former ‘Late Late Show’ host got quite sentimental on ‘The Chris Evans Breakfast Show’ on Virgin Radio, admitting the reality of bidding farewell to their characters had just sunk in. An emotional James said: “Last night we were like ‘oh that’s it now. We’ve finished. We’ll never write anything that Pam says again.”

James continued: “We’ll never write interior Gwen’s house. We’ll never come up with an interesting thing that Bryn’s done.’ “We just looked at each other and we were like ‘wow – isn’t that amazing?'”. Earlier in the month, James opened up about the challenges of finalising the script amidst busy schedules, as both he and Ruth have been tied up with theatre productions.

While chatting on Capital Breakfast, he explained: “It’s written right but now we’re doing rewrites. So we have to remove some time, we have to change some bits around. “So we’ve been doing that, it’s quite tough because Ruth’s in ‘Sister Act’ over in the West End at the minute, and I’m doing ‘The Constituent’ at the Old Vic. “So we’ve been doing quite a bit of writing in dressing rooms and things like that. And then both looking at each other being quite tired from the plays but we’ll be back at it tomorrow. Back at it Friday. I hope by Friday…it will be done and finished this Friday.”

The duo decided to create a finale episode of the show – which first aired in 2007 and concluded in 2010, but returned for a festive special nine years later – after James made his way back to the UK from the US following his stint as host of ‘The Late, Late Show’ on CBS. James and Ruth announced in May that there would be one final episode that would air on Christmas Day, and it sent fans into a frenzy. Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham commented: “And so the theme tune starts to play in my head on repeat! Love you JC. Xx W”.
