Privacy NoticeLove Island host Maya Jama admits on Aftersun that holidays are “make or break” following her split from Stormzy. Maya was chatting with last year’s Love Island contestants Molly Marsh and Zach Nobel during tonight’s (Sunday 21 July) episode of Aftersun when she made the statement. Molly and Zach, who recently reunited after a brief split, had just been on holiday to Australia. The pair were discussing their trip when Maya pointed out the couple had a “bump in the road”, but the pair confirmed they were now happier than ever and had some ‘exciting news’ that they didn’t disclose during the show. Maya agreed with the couple that holidays can “make or break” a relationship – which comes just a week after she revealed her split from rapper, Stormzy.

In a lengthy statement to social media, Maya told her fans about the break-up: “We fell madly in love in 2014, broke up in 2019, and then spent five years manoeuvring life apart. We decided to try for the final time in August 2023, and we’ve spent this past year trying our best to make it work; however, we recently decided to call it quits. “We were 21 and 20 when we first met-both at the beginning of our careers-and spent five years growing together and then five years growing separately, so this final attempt required a whole lot of figuring out, relearning, and unlearning. We tried, and it didn’t work, and that’s okay,” she explained in part of the statement.”

She continued: “We still think the absolute world of each other, we still care and respect each other, we are still grateful for the time we’ve had together, and we are still friends and will always be friends (so if you see us having a lil catch-up at The Brits or something, don’t cause a fuss, we are dawgs!).” Just weeks prior to their split, Maya and Stormzy were had a romantic getaway to Paris. Maya jetted over to France for fashion week and was joined by her then boyfriend. However, she was forced to cut the trip short and return to Mallorca due to a last minute Love Island elimination in June.

Also in the most recent episode of Aftersun, Maya was supported by her mum, Sadie, who sat in the live audience. As the show kicked off, Maya told viewers that her mum was in the studio, and the camera then panned over showing Sadie proudly smiling. Fans took to social media shocked by Sadie’s appearance. One fan wrote: “Maya Jamas mum is GORG!” Another added: “Maya, THAT’S MUM? Wow.” A third persons said: “Wow, Maya’s mum, it makes sense.”Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
