Privacy NoticeThe Love Island talent show kicked off tonight on the ITV2 reality series, with the 2024 islanders putting their skills on display for the rest of the villa. However, some fans were disappointed that Joey Essex didn’t perform one of his vintage hits. Tuesday’s episode saw the islanders leap into action after Reuben received a text reading: “Islanders, the spotlight awaits. Tonight, it’s your turn to shine at The Love Talent Show! #ShowUpAndShowOff #GetPractising.” While Nicole started the show with a dance routine and Matilda whipped out her feet for a toe-based puppet show, Love Island fans couldn’t wait to see what Joey Essex was going to do. The ex TOWIE star ultimately performed a Love Island-themed rap, which received a mixed reception from the other singles.

However, those at home were hoping that Joey would be singing his 2011 single Reem, which he recorded along with the rest of the cast about his titular catchphrase which is slang for something good. Since his entrance into the villa, Joey’s starring role in the music video has gone viral once again. “Joey could’ve just performed REEM. This was his actual chance to do something meaningful #loveisland,” one fan joked. Another wrote: “I’m disappointed didn’t Joey perform reem [laughing face] #loveisland.” Another tweeted: “I’m sorry but why did no one suggest Joey just perform Reem??? #loveisland.” Another said: “So mad at Joey for not performing Reem #loveisland.”

One viewer speculated that there may have been a hilarious reason behind the scenes as to why Joey couldn’t perform Reem – perhaps ITV2 didn’t have the rights. “If Joey had performed Reem would they have to pay him royalites..is that where the producers drawn the line #LoveIsland,” they said. Another said: “The producers not making Joey do reem was such a lost opportunity #loveisland.” In reality, Joey wanted to treat the other Islanders to a self produced rap – however, it was his beau Jessy who stole the show with her impressive performance on stilts. Someone else tweeted: “The talent show is here but there’s some bad news. In what is the biggest missed opportunity of the year, Joey does not perform Reem. Gutted. The other Islanders do demonstrate some remarkable talents, and Sean decides to do a sweet-based roast #loveisland.” Earlier this week, Joey was visited by his Nanny Linda and sister Frankie Essex as the islanders’ loved-ones paid them a visit in the Mallorca villa. Frankie told her brother: “Honestly Joe, you’re doing so well, mummy would be so proud of you. Honestly, daddy said he loves you so much and he misses you.” Love Island continues at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
