Privacy Notice Peter Andre became visibly emotional as he opened up about his time on Strictly Come Dancing – and put up an impassioned defence of some of the show’s biggest stars. The 51-year-old singer – who was partnered with Janette Manrara on the 2015 series of the BBC dance show – weighed in on the scandal engulfing the BBC hit, saying: “They’re just dragging everyone’s name in and it’s just not fair.” He singled out Janette, Aljaz Škorjanec, Anton Du Beke and Giovanni Pernice as people he felt he should “stick up for”, tagging them into the video, which he posted on Instagram today. Appearing from the garden of his Surrey home with tears in his eyes, Peter said: “Do you know what? I do feel as someone who was on Strictly that I should just stick up for some of these people because I was there.

“I know it was only one series that I was on, but people like Janette Manrara – who are the nicest, most beautiful people – are getting dragged into things like this. “Of course if someone did something bad and someone hurt somebody, I can understand that – of course that’s not acceptable. But because I was there and people like Giovanni were always a gentleman to me, Anton, they were lovely to me. “Not just me – the way I saw them with people. I think when Janette’s name got dragged in too, I’m like: ‘Come on guys. She’s beautiful’ and Aljaz. Of course if there’s any misconduct that they have to find out but I think they’re just dragging everyone’s name in and I don’t think it’s fair. That’s just my personal opinion. I think that some of them just need to be cut a break.” Janette was drawn into the turmoil around Strictly Come Dancing when former contestant Will Bayley claimed that she made him redo a jump that led to a lifelong injury. He told The Sun: “We practised a few times and I was really careful. But then Janette said my jump was ‘rubbish’ and I needed to smile more and go for it and show a bit of passion. “I was lying on the floor thinking my whole career was over. I heard my leg crack, I couldn’t breathe.” In response, a spokesperson for the pro dancer said: “Janette had a great time dancing with Will and one of her favourite moments on the show was doing their contemporary couples choice. “Her celebrity partner’s safety and enjoyment was always the priority throughout her time on Strictly. Janette has never received any complaints and has maintained friendships with all her partners, including Will.”Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
