Privacy Notice Denise Van Outen has joined the conversation around Strictly Come Dancing, as fellow contestant Peter Andre hit back at critics “dragging everyone into” the drama. The Celebrity Gogglebox star took to Instagram on Wednesday 24 July to reminisce about her time on the show in 2012, amid the controversies surrounding the BBC dance competition’s 20th anniversary series. Back in 2012, Denise was a contestant on the 10th series of Strictly Come Dancing, where she was paired with professional dancer James Jordan. The duo topped the leader board seven times throughout the series. However, some fans were unhappy with Denise’s participation due to her previous experience on the West End stage, which they believed gave her an unfair advantage. On 20 December 2012, Denise and James finished as runners-up, alongside Kimberley Walsh and Pasha Kovalev, losing to winners Louis Smith and Flavia Cacace. Earlier this month, Denise’s dance partner James became embroiled in the controversy when old footage resurfaced on social media following the exits of Graziano Di Prima and Giovanni Pernice from Strictly. “For those of you who have seen the edited BBC VT of me training with Georgina 18 years ago – yes I had hair once!!” James told fans last week, speaking of his time with former celebrity dance partner Georgina Bouzova. “But I just wanted to reassure you that footage was shot and edited together by the BBC team for transmission on It Takes Two 18 years ago in specific ways for the purposes of ENTERTAINMENT,” reports the Mirror. James has recently spoken out about a throwback video that showed him in a less-than-flattering light. He clarified: “Many of the clips were not related to Georgina at all (they are not allowed to do that these days as it misrepresents what actually happened) but were included for the purpose of exaggeration. The BBC thought it would be fun to put this VT together in the way they did. You can see Georgina laughing about it in the studio and in the clips.”

He also mentioned that throughout his eight years on Strictly, none of his celebrity partners ever lodged complaints against him. Denise, who partnered with James in 2012, seemed to echo his sentiment, fondly remembering their time together on the show. Denise took a nostalgic trip down memory lane, sharing a sweet throwback on her Instagram Stories. The clip, originally posted by Strictly champ Louis Smith, was captioned: “The moment I remember being a pinch myself moment at Strictly,” showcasing a vibrant dance rehearsal with stars like Denise, Lisa Riley, and Richard Arnold. Denise couldn’t help but add “aww, memories [love-heart emoji]” as she shared the memory with her fans. Meanwhile, another former Strictly star, Peter Andre, weighed in on the recent dance drama. On Wednesday, he showed some love for Janette Manrara and other pro dancers on Instagram, amidst the swirling Strictly scandals.

Chatting with his Instagram followers, Peter opened up about his time on Strictly back in 2015, defending professional dancers such as Janette and Giovanni Pernice, calling them “the nicest, most beautiful” people. “They’re getting dragged into things like this,” Peter said in a heartfelt video, addressing the recent controversies. “Of course, if someone did something bad and someone hurt somebody, I can understand that – of course that’s not acceptable – but because I was there and people like Giovanni and Anton, they were always a gentleman to me.” Peter went on to say: “They were lovely to me and not just me, but the way I saw them with people. I think when Janette’s name got dragged in too I thought ‘come on guys, she’s beautiful.’ I don’t know. I just think that yes of course if there is any misconduct that they have to find out but I think they’re just dragging everyone’s name in and I don’t think it’s fair.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
